Anybody have any idea what species of wood this is?

I was given this almighty lump of timber that my workshop neighbour had lying around in a garage for 20+ years.

I can't for the life of me work out what it is..

It's incredibly dense, and heavy. This piece is about 60mmx150mmx1400mm and weighs around 40kg. If anything it smells slight nutty when cut, but is otherwise odourless.

Image with pencil is sanded to 120g and the bottom image has a bit of mineral oil applied.

Sorry for the janky post, posted it from my phone!

Cheers

Looks like walnut, but if it’s very dense probably not.

With all those little white bits in, could it be Cuban mahogany?

Afrimosa perhaps. Used years back as a teak alternative. Darkens with age and had the white ‘filling’ in it from memory.

No idea what it is but the white specks are almost certainly silica deposits, so it will tend to blunt edge tools quickly.

Iroko goes dark. If you plane a bit off and it's more honey coloured it could be iroko.

I dont think its Afromosia, ive a pile of that sitting right now under my settee(the only place left to store it)
From wood database - sealed
