Hi folks,

I recently unearthed my stamp collection from about 20 years ago. I thought I had disposed of it! There isn't much of worth in there, but I am interested in George V stamps from Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika. I also like the George V stamps from GB.

Mainly I need a good forum, and a reasonable magazine, to help me research what I have. If my collection has any worth at all, I guess I will sell!

Incidentally, I bought a USB mouse, but it still hasn't cured my frenetic-flea jumping cursor!

Many thanks in anticipation.

Stanley Gibbons was always THE reference source before the internet. I expect they are still out there.

Cheers Bob,

Yes I have found plenty of info on Gibbons. My small collection is a bit specialised I reckon, so I hoped to find a decent forum that might be more applicable!

I'll keep searching !

Thanks again

I cleared out my "collection" a while back. Selling individual stamps would have been a pain, so I used Grosvenor Auctions. Prices were reasonable, and it was a pain-free process. https://www.grosvenorauctions.com/ I *think* I sent them photos in the first instance, and they specified which stamps were worthwhile putting up for auction.

I note they have an East Africa auction coming up in November!

Ah Well! l fear I was a 'Just William' fan! Never got waylaid by Jennings. Did I miss anything John?

Maybe it's not too late to catch back on this series?

Somewhat off-topic now, but I was a big Just WIlliam fan too. Still am, in fact. The R4 serialisations read by Martin Jarvis were superb. I never cease to be amazed at how a childless woman could get inside the head of a juvenile male. Jennings was boarding school, I believe. Slightly removed from my experience.

I would probably enjoy Jennings. I used to be a great fan of the 'Red Circle School' stories in the Hotspur, during the nineteen-fifties. The main character, I seem to recall, was the school captain, A.P.E. Carew!

Days of innocence and not an idea of what was to come!

I know this is an old thread but i have some old stamps and wanted to know if they are worth anything. Does anyone know anything about these? They seem to be from all over the world and one is dated 1960 and I think another is dated 1930s. Any help would be much appreciated and also if they are interesting to anyone then I'd be happy to part with them.
Thanks in advance
Charlie

This is what I was told by someone in the know.

In general, use the Stanley Gibbons catalogues for valuation and divide by 10.

Had a quick look and don't think there is anything worth very much. Two ideas:-

Put all of each country on ebay/ebid or sell as a whole. You will get pence not pounds I suspect

Find a local charity shop who will take them. We have a specific Book Charity shop which has stamps as well.

Thankyou. I was actually thinking the same with a charity shop/book shop but I wanted to check before I gave away something of too high a value. 😜
I thought I had another sheet of them somewhere too.
But good shout about splitting them by country.
Ill have a think.
Thankyou
