I'm not surprised, seeing that until April 1974 Brizzle was in Gloucestershire! :wink:

It bloomin wasn't!

Bristolians graciously allowed Gloucs. to have a cricket pitch up on Ashley Down, but otherwise it was a city and county in its own right. It had a royal charter (on gert posh paper stuff) wot said so.

That changed when Avon arrived in 1974, then changed back when it went away again in 1996.

Amusingly, although Avon went *before* the Internet became the popular hobby it is today, lots of web site administrators think it still exists (sixteen years later).

If I had a tanner for each site that expects me to put my county as either Avon or Gloucestershire, I'd have at least 4/-.
