In amongst a job lot I bought. It's clearly quite old, they don't make 'em like this any more. :)
120mm x 130mm and weighs 2 kilos. Solid brass.

No idea what it is Roger, apart from the obvious - some sort of protractor/angle setter for something - but it sure is a nice piece of work. Lovely clear engraving.

As you say, they just don't make 'em like that any more.

It looks something like a mitre gauge that would be used on the tool post of a metal cutting lathe. The bottom photo shows what look like slideways that would be clamped to the tool post and the cutting tool would then be clamped to the fence / upright part of the mitre gauge at the required angle.
 
Maybe a lathe tool holder for a hand grinder table, to butt against a fence and set (two of) the grinding angles? It would work nicely for that, anyway!
