Difficult if you cannot scratch n sniff.... any chance of Western red cedar...... light weight, distinct smell, similar end grain to photo??

Interesting to hear there's an embargo on Paraná Pine these days, I wondered where it had all disappeared to.

It was very much a staple in the 80's, much the same as Poplar/Tulip wood is today, though with even more of a propensity to twist. Perfect for propellors, code name, Banana Wood.

The sample shown appears to have that silky glisten.... my vote is for Paraná.

+1 for Parana pine. Its got an overall reddish tone which you don't get with cherry.

I've never (knowingly) seen Parana pine so this is a pretty useless post I guess but my first guess at looking at the pictures would have been cherry.

Good test for Parana pine is the smell when it's cut. To me, it smells strongly of carrots. But like others, the grain doesn't look pronounced enough for Pp.
Thanks Dick, I tried smell but there is none, it's been stored so long it's lost it. (like me at times! :ROFLMAO: )
