Another HVLP spraying question.

Hi all, I have been browsing the postings on spraying paint and it seems HVLP is an improvement on traditional high pressure systems.
I was wondering though if I could use my ordinary air compressor with the output pressure turned down. Could I just connect a HVLP spray gun on to my compressor and get the same results?

It depends on the compressor and spray gun.
As you rightly said, you can adjust the pressure to meet the LP part of HVLP (low pressure) it is the HV (high volume) part that you need to make sure your compressor is capable of producing.
You compressor will be rated at a certain CFM - if that is enough for the spray gun, maybe 10-15 CFM, then you are good to go.

You need a conversion gun which will use a little high pressure air to drive a lot of lower pressure air.
