I've been a lurker for a few years but it's time to say hello.
I'm an electronic engineer by day but a keen DIY'er when I'm not earning the pennies to pay for my toys.
Mainly metalwork but have a reasonably good collection of woodworking tools and machines.
Based near Princes Risborough in Bucks.

Hi there and welcome I’ve also been doing some metal work lately but woodwork is my main hobby, good to hear your spreading your skillset . If you need advice just ask .

Welcome to the forum. I'm retired from a long career in Electronics. It's a really good field to be in, a bit like farming. I also dabble in metalwork and woodwork It will be nice to see some of the things you make.

Welcome on board.
Another electronic/electrical engineer here although I have been specialising in high power RF for many years.

I didn't realise there are so many of us electronic engineers, current or retired, on here woodworking. I remember many years ago buying a second hand mk1 VW scirroco. It needed a bit of work (only way I could afford it) e.g. a decoke and top end overhaul. While I was test driving it and saying I could do all the necessary work the owner turned to me and asked if I was an electronics engineer. What does that say about us EEs? Is there some general we-can-fix-it gene?
Great car BTW.
Oh yes and welcome @BiffoBear. Enjoy

I had a mk1 Jetta. Says it all really.

Electronic Engineering was a good career to start back in the 70's It's all changed now.
It's still a good career, just very different. A lot is now done in the digital domain of course and that opens up areas such as FPGA design etc. My beef is that software engineers of the same 'grade' seem to be paid significantly higher salaries than hardware engineers.

Another Electronics Engineer here although I’m in Telecoms IT now. Just up the road from the OP.
Hi Porker, seems there's quite a few UKW members who are EE's and live in Bucks.
Probably the same in every county, I just wasn't expecting so many replies.

And I've got a MK1b Toyota MR2, currently rebuilding the suspension.

I guess that will change soon, supply and demand and all that.

Yes in my final job the most recent proper engineer designed using FPGAs in situations where I would have used microcontrollers alongside all the analogue stuff. 47 years of design (35 analogue and discrete digital +12 years with uC) has kept me interested and my brain active though. 😁
