I am always in awe at the the items turned by members of the forum.

I feel that there is something missing. Quite often it is difficult to get a feel for the size of the finished item even when dimensions are quoted. Often a piece that looks like a huge bowl is in fact quite small. This affects the way it was chucked etc.

The idea bit......what if one of the photos was to include a universal standard size item so that it can be compared to that. The only thing that I can think of that everyone has that is a standard size is the credit card size plastic. Obviously it would not be wise to publish your credit card online but shop loyalty cards are the same size.

Your thoughts please.

Any thing to large would distract from the item you are showing and draw the eye away or cover up wood grain or item detail so it would have to be small but personally I cant see it working with small boxes and the likes

That's why I put an expanded tape measure next to mine.

Something all woodturners possess I would think. :)

If the measurements are given in the post, surely it`s not too difficult to visualise (referrring to a ruler if necessary)?
Also, people might want to use the same pictures elsewhere, where it might not be suitable to include other objects in the frame.

I agree entirely with you on the subject Ian as long as size is stated its quite easy to come to a conclusion as to what the item is in comparison to the picture
