I remember a Post House Wynd in Darlington. It had a coffee bar, which tells you how long ago that was. It was a narrow walkway off the market place, somewhere near The Falchion.

According to my wife it's an alley or ginnel. I'd say alley way, passage or passageway. We're both from Dorset although my mother was Cornish so I sometimes come out with an expression that is foreign to my wife, even after forty two years.
