Oh, could you say why please? I've looked at this type of thing (not the Aldi one particularly) and thought about buying because as a DIY-er I often end up going up and down stairs a million times (my tools are in the cellar) when doing jobs around the house. But they are quite expensive here (the Stanley FatMax one is about 50 quid equivalent).

Was the quality/strength of the Aldi one not up to scratch, or was it the general design/size that you didn't like?

Off topic: I use a plastic garden trug that came free on the front of a gardening magazine quite a few years ago.
All my plastic tool caddys are used for storage.
Good points. Light weight & open so you can see all your tools & fixings at a glance.
Bad points. Light weight so easily damaged, although mine has stood the test of time. Shape causes lack of balance unless on a flat surface. Hard to use up a ladder. Probably not big enough for multiple power tools.
Only posted this to stimulate ideas.

Can't speak for the Aldi version but I've had several others over the years. I currently have the Fatmax one which was a bargain from Homebase of all places about £20 iirc. I do tend to treat them as something of a consumable as they get a pretty hard life and are constantly overloaded, however they are the best solution I have come across for accessible storage / transport. A couple of years ago I bought the Rutlands tool storage combo set which included along with a tool belt, chisel roll etc an open top tool tote. It was a lot lighter construction than what I was used to and as it was the other things in the set that I really wanted I gave it to my brother, he has been quite happily using it for home DIY and to be fair he is in the middle of a major house renovation and it seems to be holding up ok. I can't imagine that the Aldi one could be any worse than the Dakota branded one from Rutlands and at 17 quid or so not a lot to lose. However if you spend for a Fatmax, Irwin or Dewalt it should last you forever.
Hope this is some use to you
Cheers

Thanks for the inputs Robbo3 & Richard S.

Presently I'm using something which I guess is a bit similar to Robbo's plastic trug, but it's too small really, not to mention a bit weak (it's quite a brittle plastic and has cracked in several places already).

Usually we here get the same stuff into our Lidls and Aldis a week or two later that they appear in UK, so I'll have a look today and next week. As always with Lidl and Aldi, at that price you can't go wrong, especially with the 3 year guarantee.

I think I'm correct in saying the only other animal of this type seen here is the FatMax I previously mentioned, but never at the sort of price you mention for UK - we are, after all, "the high-cost island in Europe", and our (insert derogatory epithet/s of your choice!) policos seem to be inordinately proud of that fact!!!!!!!!!

Thanks both.

Yes stitching to the pockets came undone then down the corners I use a dewalt plastic tote now and love it.

OK, thanks slate1234. I went to my local Aldi today but none seen. Perhaps just as well?

Based on the inputs above, and yours as well, I must look more carefully, but must confess that so far I've not seen a DeWalt tote. Will look harder.

Thanks Richard. So unless I get lucky, I'm looking at the thick end of 50 quid equivalent then I guess. We'll see.

Just happened to be in Aldi yesterday & had a quick look at one. Didn't take it out of the packaging but it looked & felt heavy duty. Obviously I couldn't check the stitching but the material is certainly heavy weight.
I doubt I could damage it by overloading, certainly not in normal use.
So I'm guessing Slate either got a faulty one or there is an inherent fault with the stitchng.

I was in Aldi this morning and had a look. As expected it does not feel as tough as my fatmax but it did feel to be sturdy and well made. As long as not abused I would think it will be fine, I wouldn't mind one if I didn't have the fatmax already.

I've had the Aldi one for the past three years. It's still in one piece after regular DIY use including four large jobs. (New roof, new kitchen, new boiler and bathroom refit)
