Recip saw £25 https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/t ... 0-21_16-28

If you've never used one, extremely versatile, easy to use and relatively safe. Good for tree pruning. I use one for ripping out at work and even cutting into floorboards where I used to use a circular and wreck blades on nails.

They've also got blades for sale but I wouldn't bother with those.

What's the main benefits over a jigsaw? Would one of these be able to do most of what a jigsaw does?

No not at all Ross, it's like a jigsaw on steroids. It's a demolition tool really, but very versatile and I thought for the price (usually about £80 for Makita etc.) it seemed worth having in your arsenal. Good for very rough cutting, but nothing delicate.

You can also fit metal cutting blades. Good tool for cutting in awkward places.

Aha, I see now, it's a different bigger beastie altogether, just looks a bit similar around the saw bit,.... with your head at an angle and squinting

I used to have one but I rarely used it. Great for demolition work as has been said. I used to use mine for cutting out stud walls, timber window frames, small logs, etc.

The only thing to be aware of is the cost of blades. Decent quality ones (Bosch) can be upwards of £15 for a pack of three.
