would the F clamps be worth a punt for a beginner? i understand you get what you pay for but was wondering if these would be ok for the money.
I havent seen the aldi ones, but 18 months/2 years back i bought some 300mm silverline heavy duty F clamps (they may have been the deep capacity version actually). They were really cheap- 7 quid or so, and I qualified for free shipping IIRC, from wherever they came from. As a beginner these were fine.
A few weeks back I was in the USA, so nipped into Home Depot or Lowes and got some pipe clamps. Whilst there, they had some cheap Bessey 12" clutch operated F clamps, so i got a couple to try out (GSCC if interested).
The Besseys were $12 or so. They dont sell them here, but if they did, I imagine that they would have been approaching £15-20 each +, so not a budget model.
The silverlines are much better IMHO. I would buy some more of those, I wouldnt buy any more of that model of Bessey F clamp. If I was using them all day long, then my decisions might be different, but based on the half dozen or so silverline heavy duty f clamps that I have, I think that they are good value for money. The besseys might be better in a much larger size, but they are a pain to operate in 12".
