So I have two locks on my garage door, the standard lock for the handle (which I know is useless) and also a garage door defender. I'm also wanting to add an alarm, as I know locks only slow them down. I figure an alarm would hopefully actually make them go away?

I was looking at the wirless PIR sensors :

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-Motor ... ef=sr_1_15

but to me, they seem a bit useless. As for it to work, the PIR has to be in sight of the thief, and if it's in sight, then that means the thief can just pull it off and disable it before (or after) it sounds. So is there something where the PIR is on view, but the actual bit that sounds the alarm a separate item, so that you could try to make it difficult to get to?

basically - something like this, but with a remote?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-Weath ... ef=sr_1_17

My plan being that the alarm would be inside the garage, and would trigger if someone got in.

I have an alarm where the sensors are battery-powered and independent of the main unit. The unit itself sounds, as does another siren in the house, all wirelessly. It appears to be very good, although I've not yet had cause to be grateful for it, thankfully.

All my stuff worth more than about £30 is marked with SmartWater, and marked as such. It's traceable if it turns up after being sold on, and there are stickers all over it and the windows and doors showing that the stuff is used. I mark small stuff because the small things might be the thing that catches someone out. Whether it's a deterent, who knows? I work the theory that my b.i.l. used years ago - he said his alarm was crapp, but as there were six houses in his lane and his was the only one with an alarm, his wasn't going to be the one to be burgled. :D

Alarm mines are very effective ...

Surely this is a horrible horrible idea? yes it's going to get police attension, but for all the wrong reasons.

Why?

Much louder and cheaper than keeping a dog.

Alarms are ignored and despised by neighbours.
Get some thing that sends a message to you, or if you have a seriously valuable tool collection, to a company that will respond or call the police.
I've heard hundreds of alarms go off, and never ever thought anything except what a bluudy nuisnace it was.

A cctv camera that is fully night time effective and does NOT have visible leds, mounted high on your house, pointed to the drive or road would work to identify any vehicles used.

CCTV is useless as all they're going to do is disguise themselves. The alarm would be to wake me up.

I don't know about your street, but a gun shot would not go down well.

My nephew was burgled a few weeks ago. he had full cctv coverage of the two pillocks that broke into his house and stole his car. the video was used to secure the prosecution of both of them.

It's only a blank round. Also, it prevents the pikey scumbags - (other denominations of thieving git are available) - nicking your gear in the first place. Alarms / CCTV / Notices / Smart Water won't do that, they'll nick it anyway.

It's a nice idea, but in some parts of Bristol a gunshot is practically par for the course.... also just the other side of the oad is a very elderly lady who could be susceptable to a harsh shock.

My son fits alarms and cctv in his job, always advises against wireless as it is often as problems and is someone wanted to it can be jammed. Hard wired is best.

I have cctv on my house, not going to stop someone that really wants to break in, but the only house I the area with it fitted, so my hope is they go elsewhere for an easy house...

Ah right. In all the cases I have seen, the thieves were smart enough to disguise themselves. I guess they're not all so clever then ...

build a guillotine and have a big sign saying "Thieves will be executed",
I saw a sign once saying, trespassers will be shot, survivors..... will be shot again.

Perfectly legal.

I love it.. Exactly what i need to wake me up and go out with the dogs. I imagine all but the most determined thief would be off once these went off... Now then if i can just remember to disarm them every time i go in there. Lol
