I recall reading an article on sharpening chisels in a recent magazine, the writer advised spending alot of time flattening the back of the chisel. I checked over by stock of chisels from the last 50 years and considered they looked flat OK. Last evening I read an article in a woodwork book advising the same operation (but using wet and dry paper on glass), I got fed up watching another football match within the hour on TV so I went out to the workshop and choose my favourite chisel and worked on the back for twenty minutes, WHOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE THIS MAKES , my chisel cut hard wood like scissors cutting paper.
I'm going to spend some time on my other chisels during the next three weeks.
