I am contemplating making another embroidery box for the wife.
The box will have a bottom drawer and a lidded compartment above.

How would members advise the construction of fitting a base (to the sides)
Also the lid would have a top plate to enclose the compartment, how are these also constructed.

Looking to make an items without nails

Hi DW

In the past I have used a dado cut in the sides with a router (mounted in table), just slot it in. I have also used finger joints to do this.

You could cut a sort of lap joint along the bottom of the sides and the edges of the base - basically two rabbets

Another option might be to use biscuits and glue or even miller dowels (or plain dowels)

Of course, you could simply glue it on in a butt joint

I never use nails or screws!!!

Groove (dado) for me too. If you want the panel flush with the top & bottom surfaces of the box cut a rebate on the outer face the same distance the groove is set in from the edges. Prefinish the panels and insides of the box before assembly.
