Hi there, I'm not a woodworker - just a tinkerer, and someone looking for a bit of advice.

In todays market, how much would a carpenter charge to build a small piano stool (very basic box with 4 legs - I could pad an upholster it myself) ?

I'm not looking for a mahogony, turned leg masterpiece - I don't even need it varnished! Just something that would do the job. I don't want to start phoning around without a rough idea on cost !

Many thanks for any help an advice

Andrew

Since so many pianos have been thrown out over the years, if you want a piano stool, I'd look on ebay, charity shops., flea markets etc, instead of having one made.

How will you adjust the height of a basic box, surely you need the stool adjusting screws so other sized people can use the piano?

Just google piano stalls and they seem to start at about £60, I doubt any joiner/cabinet maker could make one for that so probably best to buy a ready made one.

Yeah - the more I think about it, the dafter the question sounded! Cheers for taking the time to respond though.

To actually answer your question rather than give you advice on alternatives I would charge about £200 - materials plus labour for a softwood box on legs with a piece of mdf for a lid - no hinges or stays for that price.

+ 1

Then you still have to pay to get it upholstered and a finishing coat on it.

Not worth it.

however if you do want it making my number is ........
