Advice fitting hinges

Hi can anyone help me please, my wife has tasked me with turning a jewelry box as a gift. How would i go about hinging the lid with it being round. I am not that clever at fitting normal hinges and i don't want to mess this up, i would be grateful of any help.

Does it need to be hinged?

A fitted top with a lip would be easier.

Thanks for your reply i think i am coming round to that conclusion, started on it this afternoon and it is looking ok so i am not going to risk messing it up, so lip it is.
