I had it all planned, was going spend a lot of time in the workshop this week as I haven’t managed to get any time in there for the past couple of weeks.

I started off well yesterday morning. I went in the office early and got through a lot of of work so I could spend the rest of the afternoon in the workshop.

A New Yankee Workshop DVD arrived in the post so I thought I’d go in and watch it while I have lunch. Well I spent 5 hours in A&E instead – I was following mum into the house but she didn’t spot I was behind her (so she says  ), she swung the back door to behind her and as I put my arm out to stop it my hand went straight through the glass. Luckily the glass shattered and didn’t rip my arm to pieces but did leave a nasty and deep cut on my wrist. You could see the fat under the skin and everything. Being a soft southerner I surprised my self and didn’t throw up or pass out.

I could move my fingers okay but apparently a tendon was nicked - so they asked me to go back today for a general anaesthetic so they could have a proper look in theatre. The good news is that when I saw the specialist he was happy for it just to be stitched up under local anaesthetic! So I’m now back home, typing rather slowly with just the one hand while I rest the other.

To top it off I came home to find my hard drive had died. It didn’t want to be detected and was making a rather strange noise. I managed to get it working for the time being to get one last backup by dropping it on the desk a couple of times (sometimes modern technology needs a KUTA).

Looks likes my plan to spend some quality time in the workshop this week is well and truly buggered..

Charley,
that sounds like it could have been a helluva lot worse.

Get well soon

Andy

<shiver> - Get well soon, Charley!

At least there were no snakes involved this time....

Cheers,
Neil

Charley

raining and pooring eh?

Very impressed that you didn’t throw up or pass out!!

I guess you'll have plentyy of time to watch the DVD and learn some of Norm's tricks now :D

Hope it heals quickly

Uuuuuchh. Sounds not very nice. Hope it patches up pretty quickly!

Adam

Ouch!

You poor old sausage.

Here's hoping you (and your computer!) make a speedy recovery.

Good grief Charley - what a rotten day! I am so glad the cut did not turn out to be worse (I have a friend who lost the use of his hand this way). The hard drive must have been the tin lid as they say - glad you were able to salvage your data!

charley glad it wasnt worse ,so you didnt pass out or throw up,but did your bottom lip start to tremble ,  :p

I can sympathise - with two weeks off to work on the house I'm doing up, I played cricket on a marketing do for my firm on the third day, ruptured my achilles tendon and instead of two weeks progress, I have -3 months progress to look forward to...

relieved to hear the prognosis is good Charlie... I've had a few of them near misses... they're nae fine...
put the enforced down time to good use... work with yer head rather than yer hands... get some projects designed, cut lists sorted out... make the most of your hands on time when you're able to get back at it...

Maybe all that bad luck will make you win the lottery tomorrow?? :p

Ah i know the feeling, not of putting my fist through a pain of glass, but days where everything goes wrong

I hope you get well soon, and can plan a new week in the 'shop pretty soon :D

Oh, and try not to dwell on what could have happened, just deal with what actually happened :)

All the best..

Ta, Tom

Yeah I think I've been really lucky considering what could of happened. Just a mm or two to the other side and I could of been in trouble.

Thanks for all your comments. My whole arm feels much better today so should hopefully be able to use it again in a couple of days :D
