I received an African blackwood log today 8" x 4" so I just couldn't resist I had to turn it so on the trusty band saw cut it in half and this is the end result turned with my new small tool that I made and finished with sanding sealer and spay lacquer it is 4" x 4" the hardest part was washing the black contamination out of the sapwood with white spirit

After 20 years turning I still get a kick from it be it a large or small turning

wt,
That is absolutely lovely.
I love the colour change and the fact there is a little bit of the light wood on the foot - seems to link together the whole

I love the contrast of the black middle to the lighter outside. Very nice Vase =D>

:D Hi nice looking vase. When sanding a piece like yours the answer to keep the black dust out of the white sap wood is a few coats of sanding sealer. Sand a bit then reapply sealer. Regards Roger
