Strarted a new box and its not for tissues.

In my playroom I am using this carboard container to store odds and ends and I have a constructed timber piece suitable in my opinion for a lid. This portion was discarded some 5 years ago owing to a sizing miscalculation for the box intended at time and I found it last week when remodelling my workshop.

Cleaned up the patterened top piece using a sander with 60 grit.

Got out a selection of waste offcuts for makiing carcass of box and I will make laminated strips again,(it uses up waste pieces and I like the style)

Preparing the strips to 12mm approx.

Needed some more light coloured pieces so using this piece of European Ash.

Attempting to cut ash and my mitre saw mechanism as jammed, the blade will not drop. I took too pieces but now cannot reassemble guard. (sent off a help memo to axminster, see if they reply)

I have cut the ash to length without the blade guard attached and now preparing the ash on the bandsaw, that went well.

Got the blade guard back into its correct working position, there is a plate that needs to be in its correct working position to allow the operation to happen.

And it worked over forty times cutting these strips to length.

Don't cut to deep John!

Me not daft, me not silly, me put whitewash on my willie ( as the Jamaican said to his MIL)

LOL! God I haven't heard that since I was a kid!

No - but we all have "intellectual intermissions".

Yep, it was over 68 years ago I heard that one, and it had to be explained to me. I think it was the first one I ever heard. Apart from, wont be a minute, I am going to shoot some Red Indians. we were posh in our house.

The storage box is going well, I cleaned up the faces of glued strips in the thicknesser and they came out really clean. No more of that Iroko. Used the router table now really a cabinet and the dust problems of past should now be over. Would have got further with box but because weather was good I went back to the outside job.

More progress, storage box and coal celler.

Box carcass and a base glued to shape.

14w.jpg

To accomodate lid and not use hinges I intend to put corner brackets to carcass. Using some nice even grained sapelle worked a 45 mitre on two edges using the router cabinet and then thicknessed down to 4mm.

The coal celler roof completed
which liesx between my workshop and neighbours garden wall.

I have this unused and out of sight space, do you think it is worth while storing air dried timber and using those asbestos sheets as roofing to make a timber stack?

Got the corner brackets on the box, used titebond3 and dabs of superglue to hold in place together wit some masking tape.

18w.jpg

Fitted the lid and a knob and ready to be varnished next time I open the tin.

Put some shelves up in the new shed, and will be used to store mainly garden and external maintenance equipment.

Got some logs to saw up next job and see if they are any good.
