Wanted to make something for my grandson, so came up with this. The ball swings on a freely rotating wooden carrier running on a very hard wood spigot. the base was chain sawed from an old bit of oak round. Cut squarish on the sawtable and "planed" on the lathes faceplate.

I like that. I had hours of fun at grandparents playing with one of those. As far as the string to reset. Half the fun was hunting around under the furniture to find the pins that had been knocked flying. certainly gave my parents some well needed peace.

A nice little piece with plenty of practice for spindle work and also an enjoyable game as well

It is an odd thing, but I never expected to do anything other that a very infrequent piece of spindle turning. Once or twice a year maybe. But to cover my options I chose the Axi 1628VS as it can outboard turn large bowls which was my main expectation. The lowered extension bed needed for this can be mounted inline with the lathes main bed to allow me to turn reasonable lengths if necessary. I had enough room on the standard bed for this project but perversely did need the outboard turning facility to make a baby's teether :)
