... and you don't need three pairs of arms to fit a blade on a Hegner (usually).

I had exactly the same thought when I saw the start of the video NazNomad.

Very interesting, and from what I could see, absolutely beautifully made, but being an ignorant, I do have to ask "What's the point! What does this machine do that a big scroll saw can't do - apart from making life much more difficult?"

I see from the comments that this machine is not the only one of its type, and that it's being used for marquetry. As I know nothing about marquetry except that it uses very small & thin pieces of wood (look at the pieces in the cut-outs tray) I still ask "What's the point of this machine?" - Or is it just a matter of "it's fun to have"?

What's the point? - its a historic French m/c - 17th century. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHTEEyBWnUY gives the adjustments needed to keep the blade perpendicular to the material I like the work position and wonder if it would work for a scroll saw, poss with power. It was sent to me and I thought others would be interested and couldn't resist the Hegner comparison :)

Ah, OK finneyb, thanks.

BTW, sorry if my post was not clear, my Q "What's the point?" meant what's the point of the machine, not what's the point of your post. Interesting but having watched the video I do wonder how easy that machine is to use - I'll follow the other link from nadnerb (thanks) and perhaps learn some more.

I took the question as you meant it ie what's the point of the m/c
