While on the way to Rye for the Home of Wood open day we stopped off for coffee at Queen Elizabeth Park and fell over these by the entrance.
Approx 2 feet long and 12 inches wide for the biggest and 20 inches by 9 inches for the smaller one. They came from a tree blown over in the storms about 3 months ago.

They weigh a ton and I guess they are going to take a while to dry out.

OK guys, I obviously didn't explain it properly. They were propped against the wall just inside the entrance and were for sale at what I thought was a silly ( low ) price. You tend not to know its history ( blown down 3 months ago ) when you steal stuff.

What is it?
Ahh, yes, should have said :)
It is Yew. an old tree that fell in the march storms. They have painted the ends so it doesn't show up much.

I will photograph them individually in a few days and see what is the best way to deal with them. I think I will probably dry quicker than they will left in the round.

Sorry. You could live next door to Queen Elizabeth Park. I don't know. :)
