Hi Woody,
They look fantastic, hats off to you!. Eventually, I'd like to start making some pens, got a good year or 5 to go!.

By the way, forgot to say, amazing what you can make from some Privet!, my favourite I think!.

Those pens are really brilliant. I have some privet seasoning and looking forward to using it now, it's just beautiful the privet pen is my favourite too. Is myrtle burr basically from a regular myrtle bush?

thats a mighty fine bit of privet woody wonder wehere you Sourced That From ?
and a wo0nderfull selection of pens take my Hat off to yers
regards
Bill

Thank you Steven it is a wonderful wood to turn just like turning boxwood the shavings just peal of and it needs very little sanding I only used 400 and 600 grits on it

wood like to see how you hollow them out woody, i seem to struggle a bit keeping straight, i am using the colt bit too but find it a tad too long..

Hi Steve I do mine on a pillar drill in a cross vice and use an engineers vice to make sure they are standing up straight and ordinary jobbers drill bits and withdraw every 1/4" or so to clear the drill bit especially on exotic and oily woods if you want a pic of the set up let me know and I will do one for you

i would like that please woody, the colt bit is too long for my pillar drill so i use the chuck and jacobs chuck on my lathe to drill them, when i get the time that is..

Here you go Steve the cross vice makes it so easy to line the blank and drill up to dead center and the square to make sure the blank is upright but I must add this set up is to big for the smaller drills mine is a floor standing type and before I got this one I had a big engineering bench pillar drill as well and this set up worked very well on that

I give up on barrel trimmers and use the disk sander it is kinder on soft spalted wood and tougher on hard woods

Oh, I might try that too, I absolutely hate using my barrel trimmer! Is it fairly quick using a disk sander?

It is much quicker but you have to set your sander table up dead square and your fence and keep looking to make sure it is all going right
