Hi I've just finished my second box, which I did for my wife's birthday. She talked me into parting with more cash than I wanted to for a scroll saw, so I thought I'd do her something half decent.

The design is one that I did originally for some pyrography work, but it adapted quite well. I did box joints on this box and, although they are long way from perfect, they are my best yet. The only other problem is that the hinges didn't sit right so the lid is a bit skew whiff.

Finding decent small hinges is a real problem. I have found some on the originalmaquetry website, but £8 postage is a bit to steep. If anybody knows where I can get some with screws it would be appreciated. Gluing hinges on with epoxy resin is a nightmare.
Anyway, that's enough wittering, here's the box.

Rule one, keep the longhaired boss happy (read wife).
Did I read that right, the wife talked you into spending more on the saw, lucky man, don't complain.

Nice little box, I like the dragonfly detail. =D>

Take care.

Thanks for your kind comments. For the record, I wanted to buy a saw for about £100 quid, but I was dithering about spending that much money on some thing that I might not take to. My wife insisted that if I got a better quality saw I'd enjoy it more and in a moment of weakness I succumbed and purchased an Excalibur.

However, I think the reason why my wife was so keen, was to balance up the guilt she felt about lashing out over £400 on a food mixer that she fell in love with after watching the Great British bake off.

Still I've got a great saw I'm getting some nice cakes, so I'm not complaining.

Would that by any chance happen to be a Vitamix?

Martin.

isn't the vitamix a blender? maybe a KitchenAid?

Nice box, lovely detail.. Would like to know your thoughts on the Excaliber when you have owned it for a while, quailty and all that..

The mixer is called an artisan and it is made by a company called kitchen aid. It is a nice looking bit of kit, but 400 plus quid is a bit steep for mixing a bit of flour and some eggs.

Hi stevebuk, I don,t really know how I could give you a true apprasial of the excalibur because being my first scroll saw i have nothing to judge it against. The only thing I had made out of wood before getting it was a bonfire.

One of the main reasons for choosing it was the quick blade change facility and that woks well especially as i do lot of internal cuts. Overall I am very pleased, it runs smoothly and without vibration.
If you have any specific qestions about it please let me know.

i just wanted your thoughts on build quality and ease of use really, you seem happy with yours as yet, thank you..

Steve, you're correct, the Vitamix is a blender, and not something you would want to put your hand in, it's violent! My o/h wanted one, she desires kitchen gadgets like I desire tools, but at 400 quid it was well out of her (my) price range. She went through the house looking for stuff she no longer wanted and found people will buy just about anything on ebay. Not only did she learn to use the computer and set up for ebay, she made enough in 3 months to buy the Vitamix and she also gave me the money for the Hegner. As she hates computers with a passion, as soon as we both had our gadgets, she packed in with ebay. As funds are low at the moment, I've started looking round the garage to see what I might be able sell, but being a hoarder, I tend to put stuff to one side to sell, then next day put it back again. :)
