I drill a lot of holes, sometimes 1000's a month. Mostly 6, 6.5 and 9mm.
Yes they do have to be metric.
I recently needed a 12mm bit and bought a Trend 12mm quick release Forstner and what a pleasure to use providing clean cut rim and a smooth bore.
I work with Ash, Elm, Beech, Sycamore, Cherry, Maple.
Some timbers drill nicely with a bradpoint but others like Elm or softish hardwoods can be a bitch lifting hole edges and leaving little snaggy bits attached to the rim.
So back to the Forstners. Are 6 & 9mm available in the UK or do I need to looking further afield? yes I have trawled the UK web but so far no luck.
Don't mind paying for the right piece of kit (the 6.5mm brad cost nearly £30) as there will be a huge saving in reduced finishing time.
