Hi Folks

Can someone recommend me a 12.7 router bit that would be suitable for this job.

I need to make a template 120x65mm that with be cut to a 3 mm depth
ANY tips or tutorials would be most helpful

Basically what I want to do is recess a 3 mm bit of Aluminum sheet in the aperture.

Cheers

a normal straight bit will do it I would think. Set up a fence, or clamp a straight edge with some stops. use the aluminium to set the depth of the cutter.

Or just use a standard cutter and guide bush and a 6mm MDF template.

I would avoid those flush cutting bits shown above as you really need to come in from an edge with them as they don't plunge and even if they did at 50mm it would be a bit hairy and you will have very large radius internal corners.

These are specifically for "bottom trimming"

Depending on the shape of the base of your router, make a frame around the hole with the right offset and route clockwise.

I have the 6-bladed surface trim one - does what it says on the tin and leaves a fine finish, but not really suitable for the task you have though.

I have one of the straight cutters that Wealden do with a third blade, on the bottom, That leaves a really clean hole bottom, and is intended for plunging. Worth a try, perhaps with a 30mm guide bush?

Cheers,

E.
