10% discount on makita at wickes.... whats the point if the reduced 90% price is still higher by a country mile than a simple google seach.

Almost as much a waste of time as Screwfix. When I challenged them on FB about their prices they claimed to be competitive. Once I pointed out that I could buy the BL1830 for £63 from FFX as opposed to their £150 they stopped playing and ran off saying I was being mean

There are a lot of companies out there that create a perception that they are cheap, when often they are far from it. Ryan Air, B&Q, Homebase etc.

I have an old fashioned hardware shop and some timber merchants that I use most of the time, anything else I will try and buy online, occasionally B&Q may be cheaper; but, I will only buy the item that I want.

I saw brad nails in B and Poo once that were more than five times the cost in the local timber merchants.

Problem is when you need something on a Sunday afternoon!

I looked at the price of 3 core and earth at B&Q £17.99 for 10mtrs. I needed 8, so I thought the waste wasn't too much. However, I had to go half a mile down the road to an independent outlet I prefer to use. There I got 8mtrs of 3 core and earth, an aerosol of spray grease, two tubes of decorators caulk and two light switches. Cost? Just over £18.

Trade point card defo seems to smash down b and q prices. Last night needed some eggshell- £21 per litre. Had an offer of 3 for 2 so 3 litres for £42 then after trade point discount reduced it to £13 quid a litre, so 26 quid for 3 litres- cheaper than buying a 2.5 for some reason .... it's a pain in the butt but i quite often take stuff to there counter to see how much it will get discounted by then decide whether its a good deal or not

You'd be amazed at how many things are actually the same price or even dearer in a few cases, they just seem cheaper because the ticket price doesn't include VAT. It's not until after you've paid that you realise - even then some people don't.
