Just wondering if there's anything at all I could do to use a 1.5mm drill bit in a pillar drill chuck that ranges from 3-16mm? Is there anything along the lines of a collet adapter that can be used in a chuck? I'm guessing not but I don't really want to fork out for a new chuck as I only just splashed out on the drill!

Just realised I have a 1.6 mm router bit, can I just put that in the pillar drill?

+1 for a pin chuck - not too expensive from the likes of Arc Eurotrade (usual disclaimers) but be careful, as they're normally expected to be used for small drills by hand, not machine, not all of them turn concentrically uif used in a machine. But that linked pin chuck, though "expensive looking" (15 quid odd??) should be OK.

But also +1 for masking tape if you're only going to do the odd 2 or 3 small holes.

BUT, if you'll be doing lots of small holes & you want the real "swept up" solution (which will be about 50 quid odd), find out what shank your drill press has (often Morse Taper 2) and the thread in the chuck then buy a 2nd small size chuck (say 0 to 5 mm).
