    Alternative to Cherry?

Birch is a good alternative to cherry. With a good dye job, many would have a hard time telling the difference. Ed

    Nail guns and compressors

I have a Senco 15 ga finish nailer and an 18 ga medium crown stapler. I find they work very well. So well, in fact, that I intend to upgrade my 18 ga brad nailer to a Senco as well. Hope this helps, Ed :)

    protecting your camera

Thanks, everyone, for all the input. Eastern Canada is like the rest of Canada...-25C in the winter, +30 C in the summer, not including wind chill and humidity. I need to advise my boss which camera to buy me so I can take photos of motor vehicle accidents. I'm sure it's no surprise to you...

    protecting your camera

Hi, I know several readers here are into photography so I thought I'd put forward this problem here: I need to be able to use my camera outside and in inclement weather (rain, snow, whatever). Is there some hood or other protective barrier I can get to keep it from getting ruined by the...

    "Attractive" tool belt

The belt seems an interesting idea, but the thoughts of having the contents of my chisel rack jump towards me, metal parts first, aimed at my midsection....... YIKES!!! Ed

    pens

Thanks, Tom. I guess I'll go with CA so I can "Get at it". As an aside for us North Americans, I see that Jacques Coulombe Ltd. has some of their Berea Hardwoods pen kits on sale. I'm not affiliated, etc. (Hope this doesn't break the forum rules.) Ed :)

    pens

Those are beautiful! At this point, I can only aspire to such creations. My order of a mandrel, kits and turner's polish should be here from Lee Valley this week, then I'll try a couple of easy ones to start with. I have a few offcuts of purpleheart and walnut and stuff to play around with...

    pens

I just finished watching "Turning Pens with Kip and Rex" for the second time. I'm extremely new to turning, so I thought this might be a good way to get my feet wet. Having seen some of the things involved, I also broke down and ordered the equipment necessary (mandrels, kits etc) to try it...

    Plane blade ruined?

At the very least, the blued blade will be good for developing your grinding technique. Everyone needs a guinea pig/throw-away. Ed

    23 ga. pinner

Thanks for the replies. I'm surprised more people don't know about them. I'm pretty sure Nikle is made in Italy and I think Omer is made in Europe as well. Scrit, have you had any problems with the depth setting feature? Ed

    23 ga. pinner

Hi everyone, I'm thinking about getting a 23 ga. pinner to use on finer moldings when installing them. Does anyone have any experience with these, and if so, what brand have you found the best. I've been looking at Cadex, Omer and Nikle. Thanks, Ed
