One of my other hobbies is playing and collecting guitars and was surfing around a well known guitar forum on threads relating to fenders and notice quite a bit of animosity towards each other when someone didn't agree with what was being said, not like this site which is more open to other...

I thought I knew what planing was....

I agree totaly that you get what you pay for when buying engineering or most things for that matter, but have to agree with dangermouse on this one and say for a hobby and something to do on these dark winter nights finding old planes to fettle and use for the odd little woodwork project is my...

Like Allen said if that is a quick job what can you do when you take your time!. I was inspired by your previous fettling with the htp finish but bottled out at the last minute and went for gloss black. Craig

    woodworking benches

Hi all, Has anybody used, bought, or seen these workbenches, there seems to be a few people selling them for around the hundred pound mark. I know they are not going to be as sturdy as a one costing 3,4, times more but in these hard times they dont seem to bad. This is to go in my single garage...

Stanley 4 1/2 plane restoration - is it worth it?

In my working life i am a motor vehicle technician and have regularly welded cast exhaust manifolds on cars and then ground down to a smooth finish and lasted years. I beleive you can buy special rods or wire but i just used regular mild steel and v grooved the crack and welded it up. Just a...
