    A different take on dominoes

Fine Woodworking covered this approach a while ago. As well as plywood and finger jointed L tenon's, the idea that stuck with me (but not yet tried) was Tim Coleman's. He used aluminum L extrusion, padded with wood shims to the correct thickness. If you go to his website you can find the article...

Workshop burgled, now my tools are on eBay

Im conflicted on this point. Some have advised that I should keep all tools in the house. But it was a pleasure to have a workshop with tools at hand ready to use. I also don't want to feel like a tool jailer constantly having to unlock and lock everything. Currently plan to do everything to...

Workshop burgled, now my tools are on eBay

Guys I appreciate the emotional support and revenge fantasies but more helpful is the practical advise about layers of protection. Some done, more to consider. The police have reopened my case and the officer was a carpenter before retraining and keen to help but after two weeks admits he has...

Workshop burgled, now my tools are on eBay

The burglary was traumatic, 30yrs of accumulated hand tools, clamps and power tools gone over night from my garage. Thought I was secure but some building work on an extension meant they had forced a temporary gate into my garden and broke the lock on the pedestrian garden door. No CCTV or name...

How to reproduce grooved cupboard door face?

Hi, welcome welcome back to the forum. I did think that 'convex groove' might be an oxymoron! But what every grooves you want it is probably going to be a question of the right router cutter, router, straight edge and method to index it over between cuts..... unless you are making 100s. Might...

    Yes happy to post

Circular saw base, steel or aluminium

Not familiar with these exact models, but normally the aluminium bases are a precision casting that can accommodate features that allow them to run on a track and provide other features etc, whilst the steel base is a pressed component that is less precision but more robust.

Sold Triton Precision Power Saw (TSB001) - unused

This saw was designed to work with the Triton Workstations (Mk3 and 2000). Now discontinued, I bought it to make my own compact table saw solution but graduated to a bigger workshop and proper table saw before it was ever used. Been in my loft for last £25yrs! Ideal if you are looking to extend...

    Tapered Tenons

Been thinking about mortice and tenon joints A while ago Brian Boggs spoke about developing his tapered tenon joint (you can read a bit about it here) At the time the mention of custom made router bits put me off, but I recently noticed that Wealdon do have 2.5deg tapered bit in their standard...

    Oxbend Chair

It is a nice design, isn't it. He is quite active on IG, and there are a few workshop process shots among the marketing ones, so you might spot something. I had a quick look, but the best I saw was from 29th Oct 2019 showing the router bit and jig he uses to clean out the seat housing. It would...

    Steaming wood

Thought I would add to this thread, as I have recently noticed several people claiming success with steam bending kiln dried timber. Whilst I have done a bit of steam bending greenwood for chairmaking, often the limiting factor is sourcing green or air dried material and that seems to dissuade a...

    Shoulder Screws

Hi Mark, I seem to remember Caleb James made a version of this chair a few years ago and it was featured in Popular Woodworking, it is on my some day projects list too.......wow just managed to put my hands on the right magazine.....doesn't help with sourcing the screw but might help...

    Myford ML8 Morticing Attachment

Glad to say this has been collected and is now another restoration project on redhunter's list. So pleased it has found a new home.

    Myford ML8 Morticing Attachment

I got this attachment with my lathe. The lathe cleaned up very nicely and is now in regular use, but the mortice attachment has sat in a corner for too long. As I now need that corner, I am hoping someone else might be interested in taking it on.....what I really want is a 12" tool rest for the...

    CNC machine maker Recommendations

Suggest you try that question over at MYCNCUK.COM There are a good mix of hobbyists and pros on there, though the focus is often towards self build ( a rabbit hole you should probably avoid if you have a business).

    Sand between coats of Osmo?

Short answer.....no. However I was taught to apply it with a light grey (3M) abrasive pad which does slight contradict the above answer (learnt from Mark Fish)

New Myford ML8 owner - Advice please

So bit of an update to share and more advice sought. As far as further refurb, I decided to get some use out of it first before deciding how much I needed/wanted. So a bench become the priority - wanted it to take up minimum floor space, against the wall behind my Planer/Thicknesser. Ended up...

Adding a Current Transducer + contactor to my 230v table saw

OK, so I stumbled across this possibility when investigating home automation. I have been trying things out in my workshop as I am interested in seeing how practical the low cost solutions now are. The new generation of remote control plugs use home wifi to connect, making integration with...

Adding a Current Transducer + contactor to my 230v table saw

Ok so for the geeky woodworkers I'll try and recall the information and get something posted over the weekend. Andrew

Adding a Current Transducer + contactor to my 230v table saw

I've been experimenting with another approach using a pair of 'smart plugs' like these Whilst designed to link to your WiFi, they can communicate directly with each other, have built in power monitoring and cost less than £10. One I have clearly marked 'Slave' and lives on the lead of my Henry...
