    Weird Waste Pipe Woes

As Mike S has got his waste pipe issues sorted, I've got a waste pipe issue that's a bit on the weird side. The 4" plastic soil stack goes from the garage floor through 2 bathrooms above, then through the roof to the vent (it's a town house with 5 split levels). Everything runs away perfectly...

    A new concept in sheds...

    Wood ID please

SWIMBO came home from her daily chores with a bad of bedding material, sold to her as pine. It's wood, stinks of cinnamon, very very soft, and halfway between dust and shavings (2mm granules). Very brown in color. Any ideas?

    Wet Wheel

I have a home made wet wheel. Runs at about 50-60 rpm. 8 or 9 inch smooth stone, approx 2 inches across. The tool rest is at the top, with the chisel pointing away from me. Should be obvious, but.... which way should the wheel turn?

    Election Voting

No, it's not a political thread. SO DON'T MAKE IT INTO ONE....... please. Am I eligible to vote? I saw the tv adverts saying that if you don't register you can't vote. I didn't register. But my family and I have received voting cards. I have always received voting cards (as I am from...

Shop built belt sander / linisher.

I'm not building one. I've already built two. Both take 6" wide belts. One is about 2 feet long, the other 3 feet. Built them a few years back, and used both extensively. The basic configuration is basically a fixed drive pulley, and an adjustable slave pulley. The slave pulley adjusts...

    Was I born yesterday?

Sorry, this is a fairly long post, but if it stops anyone getting caught it's worth it. I haven't fallen for a scam yet, and although I didn't suss this one immediately, I did smell a rat. I've 'asked' for things that have been offered on Freecycle many times, and the only thing I've ever been...

    I hate it already...iphone 5

I hate it for 2 reasons. 1. I hate mobile phones 2. I hate Apple. But. I'm off to Switzerland for 2 weeks. Part of the condition of the 1st pay rise I've had for years is that I go there for training. BLAH!! One of my conditions is that they give me a company phone to call the Missus as much...

    A Virgin-free Zone

As the title suggests, my house is now a virgin-free zone. At least as far as the TV is concerned! What did you think I meant? Yes, they've put the price up for the last time. For Broadband, and the compulsory phone line rental, even though you don't need a phone line to get...

    Car Insurance again.

It's been done to death, but always worth a reminder. Got my renewal through from Tesco Car Insurance. £308. Ouch. Quick go on the comparison websites, with all the exact same specs as my existing insurance, and Tesco comes out at £246. Call them on their 'secret' alternative number (using...

    Mig welder

My welding skills are seriously lacking. I've got a basic qualification in arc welding. I sold my own 180 Amp mig a year ago, as it was just far too big and heavy to get from my workshop to my front garden, where my rusty old cars are kept. The 180A was loaded with 1mm wire, and the lowest...

    My feet stink!

I don't usually suffer with smelly feet, but I've been out working hard in the garden all week, 12 hours+ each day, under the hot sun, sweating like a trooper, wearing trainers with no socks. 1 hour in the bath later, and my feet still stink! Just thought you needed to know.

What is wrong with some people?

There are some members of our species who really defy belief. This is petty, but it upset SWIMBO and it fills me with rage. One of our cats went missing. Totally out of character. After 48hrs it was obvious that something was wrong. My boss was kind enough to let me print 'Missing' posters...

    Ice Pick Headaches

Ice Pick Headaches. Ever heard of them? I hadn't, until today. Also called Primary stabbing headaches. Been getting them for about a month now. Sometimes it's every 3-4 minutes, and sometimes 10-15 minutes. Not keeping me awake at night though. Haven't had a migraine for about 25yrs, but these...

    BBQ Dilemma. (Manstuff)

I appear to have reached a turning point in my life. Like all real men, the BBQ is 100% my domain, and has been for over 30yrs. The wife knows not to encroach when I'm adorned with welding gloves and pinny, and an ice cold bevvy! She can busy herself with menial tasks like preparing the salad...

Ever had a song in your head....

...... or even just the tune, that you've been desperate to identify for years and years, and it's driving you crazy? Well I have! I can hum 1 little bit of the chorus, and that's it. I don't know any of the lyrics, or even the genre!!! Or at least that was the case until a couple of nights...
