    Ear Defenders

I wear my Peltors at work (large printing firm) and they cut out so much yet still allow me to hear people shouting at me. Definitely recommend and really not expensive when you think about it.

    An Angel in the Midst....

Knowing how much you all like Gabriels i thought i'd share a couple from my cabinet. Never realised what they were since i purchased them before becoming familiar with the names. Early 19th century but possibly earlier as at least one wedge has been replaced.

    Car boot thread

Hahaha, i'm only 23! Not ye olde yet lol. Being stamped john green means it should be no later than around 1808 and looking at it probably 1780-90. So for £2, i think that's a bargain. However this now brings the plane count to 80.... :-/

    Car boot thread

Afternoon ladies and gents, didn't see a thread so figured i'd throw one up. Bit of a gloat too ;-) Just committed robbery after purchasing a John green (slightly abused) half round for £2 and assorted other totalling £20. Some fairly early 19th century makers. Included in that was a snipe bill...

truble finding a decent hardwood stockist

No mention of Brtish Hardwoods in Keighley?! Great staff, great service. Prices aren't too bad but depends what you are getting. Always quality product though and will happily let you pick through stuff.

    Reynolds Hand Morticer c 1875

A small correction but worth pointing out that Salts was driven by 4 beam engines powered by 14 boilers... :-D

    I want something made?

Be careful what glues are used to if it's for long term storage as many glues give off gasses that will yellow/upset paper. So long as you aren't trapping moisture inside the box or creating some kind of micro environment it will probably be ok. Personally i'd go for one of the archival boxes...

    Garden Workshop

Whilst it would take longer it's certainly possible with only basic hand tools. A large framing square to get everything plumb then a saw and hammer are more or less all you would need. Power tools just speed things up a little, sometimes!

Clubs in the Bradford, Leeds, Harrogate area

I looked for the same a couple of weeks ago but could only come up with that club. Do let us know if you find another please!

    "Utilitarian" Workshop: Design Advice Sought

I'd suggest trying a local builders merchants rather than wickes, i'd imagine you can knock a fair chunk off that price! Try Manningham concrete in bradford, good service and not massively far also generally half the price!

New plane cabinet - mini WIP

I wish i could promise i won't buy any more planes but it's ever such a slippery slope. :D Will just have to make MKII when i run out of room.

New plane cabinet - mini WIP

I figure it's time to stop lurking and get stuck in with the things i make for better or worse! For some time now i've had more planes than room to store them, i built a cabinet from salvaged bits and pieces as a temporary measure over a year ago (we've all been there i think!). So, having...

    Tearout problems - Advice sought

Thank you *everyone* for your advice. Sharpened the gouges a bit better today and used the right tool for the job and what a differnce it makes! Minimal tearout now, it's like chalk and cheese. I found out about scrapers the hard way when i first started using it the other year. (homer)

    Tearout problems - Advice sought

Been on something of a bowl binge lately made six in the last week or so and only 8 ever lol. I've been running into the problem of tearout/finishing as shown in the pictures. I'm self taught so it's likely to be something i'm doing. Tools are sharpened regularly and as sharp as i can get them...
