    Replacement Workshop/Garage Door

Hi All, Many thanks for your replies. I've spoken to a local company about getting a replacement door. I was amazed at the price. A good quality up-and-over is about £700, a side opening door is over £1000 (that includes removal of the old door and fitting the new one); that's quite an...

    Replacement Workshop/Garage Door

Hi All, I've just moved house and the new workshop (garage) door is a bit useless. In an ideal world, I'd like to make a replacement, but this isn't really going to happen any time soon and I'm very concerned about security. Does anyone have any advice/suggestions on where to buy a good...

    Rasing Joist for Loft Insulation

Thanks all for your replies. I've got a clearer idea now of the way ahead. I'll get back to the forum when the work's done (although this might be a while off still!) Cheers Andy

    Rasing Joist for Loft Insulation

Neil, Yes, that's an option I've seen mentioned in various forums. I guess as long as the new joist structure weight isn't too great, the old joists should be OK to support the weight. At the moment, they're OK taking the weight of me and a load of boxes! Mike, that's something I'll check once...

    Rasing Joist for Loft Insulation

Malcolm, How did you actually construct the new joists. I was thinking something a bit like one of these:

    Rasing Joist for Loft Insulation

Thanks for the reply. When you say across, do you mean inline or perpendicular to the original joists

    Rasing Joist for Loft Insulation

Hi All, I've just had a chap around to advise about topping up our loft insulation. I was amazed that regulations now specify 10" of insulation. This is well above the height of our joists, which are about 4". In order to keep some boarding down for storage, I guess the three choices are: 1) A...

    makita screwgun trigger broken

Hi Joe, I had a bit of trouble finding what looked like the 'official' Makita spares supplier a while back. In the end I ordered something from www.lawson-his.co.uk They seemed to have a very good range of spares. The service was very good too. Hope that helps Andy

    Another quest for flatness

:) Fair point. I suppose mainly because it was easier to get hold of 18mm MDF

    Another quest for flatness

Thanks for the comments. I had similar reservations about how easy it would be to adjust the top flat. But in the end it really wasn't that bad. I started by tightening the centre-most bolt and slackening off all the others. The next thing was to set just one row of bolts, getting the top flat...

    Another quest for flatness

Hi All, It feels like I've been away from the forum forever, there have been all sorts of things going on. One of which has been moving house, which has in turn meant setting up a new workshop! One of the first big jobs was to get a proper tool bench put in. The plan is to create a...

    Building a CNC controlled router

Hi Barry, I've toyed with this idea for a while too. We've got a small CNC machine at work for making PCBs. It's really just an extruded aluminium frame with some linear slides. I'm after some aluminium extrusion for a router fence, the best online supplier I've found so far is...

    Any plans for a competition?

Are there any plans for a forum competition this year? I think last year's comp started around this time. Really hope there is, last years entry has been the only finished piece of work I've managed since then! (BTW, sorry if I've missed a thread on this already) Andy

    Workshop floor?

Neil, Slightly off-topic, but what does CLS stand-for? B&Q are selling 8ft 2x3 for £1.70ish - seems a good price. I've bought a load for building some new workshop fittings. There are same dodgy bits on the pallet, but with a bit of searching there are some good bits of timber in there. Andy

advice needed for a near beginner

Welcome to the forum LEVISTA, Using a router would certainly be nice and quick. Especially, if you place the router upside down in a router table. However, this method would require a bit of spending, but a router table is a extremely useful bit of kit. Another, more gentle, approach is to use...

Hello - Anyone used a Mitre Lock Cutter?

Welcome along to the forum Effigy, As Scrit says you can do a respectable job with some straight cutters. Here's one I did earlier.... Possible not quite what you need, but a start. https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/view ... 470#101470 Andy
