    Record BS300 question

I have a BS300 bandsaw. The blade sits right next to the left hand side of the slot in the plastic insert in the table. It's almost touching. I've a feeling the blade should sit in the middle of the slot. If so how do I adjust the table (or insert) to centralise the blade? I believe this has...

    Refinishing oak table top.

Matt, I reckon where I went wrong was not rubbing the table surface after the stain had dried to get rid of any surplus. Rog, It was Mark that sold me the (no.8) lacquer and he told me about the stain I'd used when the lacquer wouldn't go off. 5 days on and I reckon I can just about recoat...

    Refinishing oak table top.

I actually removed the original finish with a scrapper and sandpaper so no chemicals were used. I guess I should have rubbed over the 'dried' stain with a cloth to check before putting the finish on. I should have sealed it first also as you suggest. I had the bottle of sanding sealer close by...

    Refinishing oak table top.

I've applied the first coat of urethane lacquer and it is taking an age to dry. The tin says leave overnight before recoating but it's been two days now and it's still not fully set (it will not sand to dust). The supplier says this is because the Colron dye I used has a naptha base and this is...

    Refinishing oak table top.

Well I've actually dyed it with Colron Indian Rosewood! I was after Medium Oak but they'd run out so I got the next closest according to the samples. It works very well. The redness of the stain is hardly apparent, just enough to give some warmth to the wood. Not the 'golden glow' of the...

    Refinishing oak table top.

I have just repaired an old oak drop leaf table which had splits in its top and one leaf. The varnish finish was also flaking so I have just stripped the top back to bare wood. However this has meant that the nice golden finish has been removed also. I would like to think that I could stain the...

Advice on My first Bandsaw (and last! if I get it right)

I have just bought a Record BS300e (being delivered this afternoon :D ). I bought it at a Recortd show. The BS350S show price is £480 including a free wheel kit. (if you have a show happening near you). I had advice from a forum member who has the BS350 so he may chirp up! He has a review on...

My mirrors too big. Can i diamond stone it down to size ?

I use a diamond glass grinder when I do my stained glass work. There are loads of tiny slivers produced which are flaked off the edge. I have to be very careful that these aren't carried into the house on my clothing . I'd hate to think what a power sander and coarse grit would produce.

    Indian Rosewood

My only comment on Indian Rosewood is that when I turned some on my lathe I had a skin reaction to the dust. If using again I would use a barrier cream or gloves. Nice wood though.

    Bandsaw dilemma

Just as I thought, the day I buy one, one turns up on ebay in my city! Seriously though, the 352 is a bit over my budget (which was stretched anyway) and also the machine is a bit big for my small workshop (well, shed really). I've just bought a Record BS300E from the Record show. Delivery...

    Bandsaw dilemma

Just about to to go to the Record show to potentially purchase a BS300E and have just seen a Metabo 317 at under my original budget (£250). Oh, decisions, decisions.

Any thoughts on the Record BS300E

I'll look at the wheel kit and see if it's strong enough. Also check if I can replace the fixed wheel with swivels. I had thought about making my own retractable wheels but it may not be worth it for the £35 show price. I see you're in the next county Dave. At last someone this side of the UK...

Any thoughts on the Record BS300E

I've been to the saw shop a couple of times recently. The only other in my price range was a Metabo 317. I didn't think the build quality was up to that of the Record. Oddsocks, your wheel kit. Do all the wheels swivel? I'm considering one as well but need all wheels to swivel as I have a...

Any thoughts on the Record BS300E

There's a Record show coming to my local saw shop this weekend. I've been considering the BS300E as just being affordable at show prices. Has anyone any experience of this bandsaw?

What do you think of the Kity 613 Bandsaw?

No..got outbid. It shot right up in the last minute. I guess it was someone who didn't have to travel half way across the country. I see there's a Record BS300 just gone on ebay for £175 buy it now. Unfortunately it's in Scotland!

    Cabinet scrapers

I have several hard point saw blades that I have put aside to take to the recycling centre. Looks like they may be recycled into scrapers then!

    Cabinet scrapers

I need to get some cabinet scrapers. I've seen a number on different sites as well as ebay. Is there anything I need to look out for. I need these to smooth out the carved top and back of a mandolin I'm making.

What do you think of the Kity 613 Bandsaw?

Unfortunately other people do the same as well as I found out when I was bidding on a No 5 plane yesterday. Of course if someone has already put in a higher bid than you....

Well, I shall be having a punt. I'm in the market for something just like this, having been looking for a while. I mentioned it in a previous post.
