Under Stair Storage - Help Seeked

Hi All, I am by no means a craftsman in wood but am generally good with my hands (so the wife says! ;) ). We own a modest 3 bed semi in North London and are running out of nick nack storage space, so I thought what a good idea to use the space hidden under each of my stair steps! I've never...

Sanding Advice Needed for a newcomer

Hi, The bleaching process knocked back the colour to almost white (perfect!). I then washed it down with warm water and have let it dry. I have begun to sand it but then thought of the staining and possible raise in the grain again! My decorator (a close friend of mine) will be staining it and...

Sanding Advice Needed for a newcomer

Thanks for the speedy response Chris. So am I going to be wasting my time in sanding the door to perfection before staining? Should I stain first then sand down to a smooth finish. After the staining we intend to use danish oil. Any advice appreciated!

Bleaching a Front Door. Advice needed

Many thanks again for the speedy reply. I'm based in Finchley, North London. Can I assume (or hope!) that this bleaching process simply removes the pigment from the wood and that it can then be stained, etc. without any major rubbing down? If you know of any local dealers to me it'll be...

Bleaching a Front Door. Advice needed

Hi Chris, Many thanks for the reply. I'm a real novice when it comes to this sort of thing so really don't know where to start looking for these products, do B&Q sell them? I trust your advice but have I explained myself enough with regards to the door that I have? as I said in my first post...

Bleaching a Front Door. Advice needed

Hi, We have bought a new front door from Magnet (Carolina) and it's a reddy kind of hardwood (not certain what the wood actually is) but the wife wants it stained an oak colour. As we all know you can't stain a reddy door an oak colour so I was wondering whether there is something one can...
