which compact forward sliding mitre saw as gift for my Dad.

Looking to treat my Dad to a CSMS as he's had a rough time with his health recently and he'd like to get into a bit of woodwork, making bird boxes, other small items, maybe some furniture and just general DIY. Looking for something accurate and simple to operate that stays in alignment - I used...

Any tips for getting a good jointed edge on a router table? I'm struggling.

No matter what i do i always end up with a slightly concave joint and i can see the gap appear against the fence when i'm about halfway through. I'm using the Jessem Rout-R-Fence with the supplied aluminium shims on the outfeed, the Jessem stock guides and feather boards on the outfeed. Is that...

Is the Metabo HC260 any good? Currently dimensioning with bandsaw and handplanes.

I would love to buy one of the bigger planer thicknessers like The Axi /CraftTrade or the iTech 260 but for how often i would use it it seems like overkill and whilst i can afford it, too much money. I have a small 3x6m workshop. So i'm wondering if i can get by with something like the Metabo...

What size screws for fixing faceplates to Record 52 1/2 vice? - 5/16" BSW don't fit

I bought some 5/16" x 1" BSW to fit cheeks to my vice and they don't fit. Callipers show the holes to be about 6.9mm although the rear face holes seem slightly smaller. Any thoughts?

Would a record 52 or 52 1/2 work on my workbench? Alternatives?

Never had a workbench vice but after a recent project decided it was something i needed to add. I have a slightly unconventional bench, 90mm square legs with a 2x4 top frame that supports an 18mm MFT style top. I built it to aid in building my kitchen but it's proven to be solid as and heavy...

Which wheeled base for new Bandsaw - Laguna 14BX

I've just ordered a Laguna 14BX with a nice Black Friday discount- it was between this and the Axminster AP3327B - I don't have 16A sockets, I liked the footbrake and the more powerful motor so went with the Laguna. Any advice on what mobile base would be best? There's the Laguna 3 wheeled one...

Advice needed on router table dust extraction

I get a bit confused about this. Routers tend to produce small chips and fine dust so what type of extractor do i need? HVLP or LVHP? At the moment I just have a Festool CTL26 and CTL MIDI. Are these up to the job or do i need a 100mm hose jobbie? I have a small, already fairly full, workshop...

Advice on separate planer and thicknesser or combo machine?

Hello, I'm trying to decide between a separate surface planer like the Axminster AT150SP 150mm and a lunchbox thicknesser like the dewalt dw733 or even the Axi AT330ST with the spiral cutter at £1000. Or even the floorstanding AT310T but that's £1500! Or a combi machine - had a quote from...

    Help making internal bifold doors

Hello, I'm after some advice on making some flat panel internal folding doors to be able to close off an office/cinema room. As it's a home cinema room it would be good to have some acoustic silencing but not essential. I'm wondering what tracks runners people would suggest and what to make...

Which grinder & polisher for sharpening and polishing parts.

Hello, I'm renovating a number of old hand planes and chisels and think it's probably time i invested in a grinder and a polisher, or one machine that could do both jobs. I don't really want to spend too much money but never like to buy anything rubbish that will pack in or not be up to the...

Blum Antaro drawers; is 15mm okay for back/base material?

Hello, I'm planning on getting some Blum Antaro drawer boxes from M&D and getting the bases cut by my local Avon Plywood. I've never done a Blum drawer before. When I look at the companies that sell them with pre-cut MFC bases, they list them as 16mm thick. Avon Plywood has ply and MFC in...

Anyone made a shelf hole drilling jig to use a router?

I'd like to make a shelf hole drilling jig. I was going to just do one with 5mm holes for a drill but thought it would be better to do bigger holes and use a bushing with my Festool OF1400 Router. Has anyone done one that they could share ideas or photos of? Cheers Dave
