    I'm Really Naffed Off!!

Can't remember the actual figures but it's something like 0.8% for Visa/Mastercard and 1.5% for Amex. There is more charged by the point-of-sale provider/payment processor etc., which I can't say I know the figures for. I worked for one of the big credit card companies until recently (don't hold...

    Charnwood Scroll chuck any good?

Funnily enough, as a result of this thread (and the offer they've got on), I just took the plunge on the same thing. It's going to be so nice not having to constantly MacGuyver a work-holding method with glue blocks and the like! Best of luck with it, and thanks for raising the topic!

I wish to put things straight.

Lew, Firstly, hello and welcome. Being a new member I expect that it is quite offputting to be ivolved in some sort of controversy so soon, but I just want to point out that this forum is every bit the helpful and sociable place you seem to be hoping it is. As with any gathering of people...

    Axminster Warrington Store

Ouch! It's my own fault really... I signed up to getting a few jobs done at home before we go away next week, so I left myself open for "you said you'd do this and this before we go so they're first priority!" (hammer) Thanks for the info Allan - I think you've convinced me to go...

    Axminster Warrington Store

I'm in Wrexham, so not far. I tried to use the "Ikea incentive" in passing conversation with the missus yesterday, briefly mentioning there was a new tool shop opening nearby... She saw straight through it...!

    Axminster Warrington Store

That's about 30 mins from me too. Damn good idea about the Ikea "incentive" by the way...!! Shame I might not get there for a while as I'm busy this week, and away for 2 weeks. Anyone fancy a quick writeup when they go? Let me know if it's worth the petrol!!

is this a good pen starter kit?

I'm a newbie (on my 3rd pen now), but I'd say that looks reasonable. I bought all the odds and ends separately and it ended up a little cheaper than that, but not much. In my (very limited) experience, the tube insertion tool is not really necessary, but hey ho. 2 things that aren't included...

    1 Down, 2 To Go

I found a good local (to me) garage recently who don't con you info repairs, but I picked up a good tip from moneysavingexpert.com a while back - all local authorities must have their own MOT centre for taxis and the like, but they also have to make it available to the general public. They don't...

Planes - how bad is bad?

This is a very useful thread - there are a lot of members of this forum who have not a great amount of experience and a very limited budget, and this really helps boost the confidence to take a chance on a cheap plane and see if it can be made useable, and also provides basic instructions as to...

Hand saw - lapse of concentration

Crikey, I'm glad that picture was blurred... Sorry to hear about your accident, but thanks for posting - sadly it's to late to stop your accident from happening but seeing these things keep the rest of us that bit more careful. Good luck with the healing process - hope it's quick! And please...

    For Sale: 3 Woodturning Tools

Tom, Apologies, was on hols (I did mention in PM, in case anyone's thinking "poor etiquette" ). I have replied direct to you a second ago Tom. As the spindle gouge has already gone, and that was the one I was mainly wanting, I figured I'd just give the thread a quick bump to let...

    Car Insurance for my son

Sorry, I know the conversation has progressed beyond the OP, but I strongly suggest you look at this guide. I've saved every year through using it, and I'd guess it's probably put £500 back in my pocket over about 5 years. Takes a little time, but is usually worth it...

Merchants in or around North Wales

Hi Huw, and welcome. I don't have anything to add in terms of suppliers I'm afraid, but I thought it would be rude not to say hello as we're in the same sort of area! I'm in a similar place in terms of experience and toolage, but feel free to drop me a line if you ever feel the need to...

    Fire & Ice Vases

Lee, I really like those - they work well together, with enough individuality in each piece to make them compliment each other rather than just being the same piece twice, with a different theme added each time. If that makes sense... A small newbie question, if I may... How did you achieve...
