    Myford ml8 help please.

Helo Cabinetman. To adjust the headstock bearings, which are angular contact bearings, you need to first remove the grub screw in the collar fitted on the outboard end of the splindle, watch out for the brass plug the protects the threads on the splindle and is fitted under the grub screw and...

    Another drilling operation question

SEcond for Phill and Limey! unless you have a clever toolbar mounted drilling machine, the tailstock V groove adapter works well, but remember to keep the pressure on, trust me I know!

problems with union graduate lathe and patriot chuck

I had the same issue with an exert for a patriot chuck onto Wadkin bzl spindle. The cause was the threaded recess in exert was not deep enough. A simple machining error. Sorby confessed to this being the problem but had no replacement at the time.Life is short and I have a metal lathe so the...

How to remove Myford ML8 tailstock barrel?

Hi Amadeus, You are quite right, the bolt will only come right out once the barrel has been withdrawn. You may be able to get the barrel to move backwards by gently heating the tailstock casting and tapping the barrel backwards with a soft drift, to avoid damaging the mouth of the morse...

How to remove Myford ML8 tailstock barrel?

Hi again Amadeus The part securing the barrel from moving forwards or backwards is bolt with a concavity machined in the side of it that matches the diameter of the barrel. The barrel is only free to move when the slot in the bolt and the barrel are exactly aligned so tightening the lever...

How to remove Myford ML8 tailstock barrel?

Hi Amadeus, The tail stock barrel is removed from the rear, by pad bolt I assume you mean the wedge that locks th barrel when the lever is rotated. This wedge is released and removed from the casting by gently tapping it down. The barrel should then be able to be tapped rearwards ie towards the...

    Harrison lathe restoration

Hello again, another joyful feature of this design is an aluminium pulley on a steel spindle, this combination is prone to galling which makes separating the two difficult. WD40 is the preferred lubricant or paraffin, but try and true up the pulley to the spindle, as pulling in whilst cocked...

    Harrison lathe restoration

Hello I have two of these lathes and from your pictures it seems that the four speed pulley is loose on the spindle and tipped out of square with spindle. The mating surface on he pulley is rather narrow and the soft aluminium is prone to being displaced if any play developes which rapidly...

    Worktops not wide enough?

Vide topchippyles most pre assembled units have a 75mm void for services at the back, this allows ample scope for scribing keeping the fronts in line, only the void space varies to comply with the wavy wall and the designed space ( usually 575mm deep) within theunits is undisturbed. Appliances...
