    Makita Submersible Pump. PF0410/2

I'm thinking of buying this. Would anyone like to comment? I'm perplexed by the outlet size. Could I connect ordinary common garden hose? But would this result in heavier work on the motor? Fred

    gauge of feed wire

I have an ancient transformer which powers a 6 v 18W bulb in a scientific instrument. The mains feed wire to the transformer is missing, how do I determine the required gauge of new wire? Is the gauge determined by the input or output charges?

    Sheet Materials for Workshop Roof

What are the cheapest sheet materials for a workshop roof (30 ft by 20 ft)? Currently has rusted corrugated sheets. As a child I remember people using hot tar to coat over rusted sheets. What would be the modern equivalent coating?

    Youtube

Why am I having trouble in getting Youtube stuff on my laptop? Weeks ago I thought I saw a screen notice telling me to do something but I ignored it and it's never appeared again.

    Wood Workers Workshop

A newsletter arrived today from Woodworkers Workshop and as usual I ask myself who are these people who can afford such highly priced equipment? I certainly cannot and even if I could I'm not really interested in equipment which appears to be as far removed from my idea of woodwork as my aunt...

    Gate Posts

I want to round-over the top ends of two 4 in. X 3 in. gate posts (rounding over the 3 in. edge). The pieces are far too big to manoeuvre on a bandsaw and my question is: would a powered jigsaw do the job? It has to cut and shape (a 2 in. radius) through 3 in. thickness of softwood. Is this...

    angle grinder capabilities

I need to cut through a 1 inch dia steel rod. Would an angle grinder and appropriate disc do such a job? It's at ground level and no hope of sawing. I'm not an engineer and am unfamiliar with angle grinders. Suggestions anybody? Fred.

    Wolf tools

I'm ill at ease in contemplating purchase of a bench mounted 500W drill by WOLF but only obtainable via Amazon. Amazon is not my favourite supplier and the idea of having a possible problem with a bench drill handled by this supplier causes me serious concern. Does anyone on this forum care to...

    Ball-cock Valve.

Is there such a thing as a perfect ballcock? I'm looking for a super efficient model, one that does not wear out and remains reliable for years ahead. I've just had a domestic flood because the ballcock remained dripping while I was away on holiday and the overflow pipe then dripped back into...

    "Tools & Shops".

Why do I have trouble in buying this magazine in UK? Taunton Press tell me to locate GMC Publications but GMC tell me to locate Taunton Press. This happens every year. A posted copy from US is about £10 and naturally from a UK agent it's much cheaper. Do list members have the same difficulty? Fred

    sash cords and parting beads

This is my first attempt at replacing sash cords. I've looked at several internet videos but all skip over the difficulty of first finding the pockets (hidden by over a 100 years' of paint), removing these covers and dealing with the parting bead. Everything else appears straight forward. I'm...

    Stainless Steel Sink

I've badly stained a stainless steel sink by using Domestos toilet cleaner (in error) and am wondering how to recover the original polish? Anybody any ideas? Fred.

    Sharpening Hedge Shears

I'm hopeless at sharpening garden hedge shears. Can somebody tell me the best sharpening angle? Should this be with a file or grindstone? I have never yet successfully sharpened shears and wonder where I'm missing out. If the two blades meet over the whole cutting length then is it ever...

    DYMO Printer

Anybody want a DYMO printer (if you remember them?)? In perfect working order and in original carrying case. I'm throwing it out. Only one reel of tape remains. I'm in Herefordshire. Fred.

    1995 Ford car

This car immediately discharges every fully charged battery that's fitted, sometimes within the hour. Several qualified mechanics have looked at the problem but all have given up in that there's no apparent reason. Everything that uses current has been examined and one mechanic has suggested...

    cycle transport

I want to get a cycle taken from an address in Herefordshire to a London address. Who would offer this kind of delivery service? I asked a furniture remover and he suggested I sit on the saddle, press the pedals and point in the direction of London. The expression 'getting on yer bike' came to...

    Cannon GasMiser.

Does anyone know where I might buy replacement radiant panels for a Cannon GasMiser fire? It's model K16 Mk 3. Cannon seem to have been taken over by Flavel but I can get no reponse from the latter. I'm in Herefordshire. Fred.
