    wood choice for table

Hi My daughter wants me to make a dinning table, but wants it in a dark (Mahogany) coloured wood. Given she will probably change her mind in a couple of years there's no way I am making it in Mahogany, so was wondering if Poplar could be stained, either that or Maranti. Any ideas?

Hi, I have decided to have a go at making Jeff Greef's Oriental Box of draws. http://www.jeffgreefwoodworking.com/pnc/Boxes/Oriental/. I started with the top rails and drew out the design so it could be cut out and pasted onto the wood, as suggested in the text on Jeff's web site I allowed...

Something simple from some old scrap

SWMBO wanted another spice rack so I copied (apologies to the designer) the one she already had. Using some old bits of pine I salvaged from a work room which was being refitted. The only cost was the Lazy Susan on the bottom which is the only one I could find.

    Blanket Box

Decided to have a go at making this Blanket Box, it was featured in the Fine Woodworking Mag a few years ago. I purchased the plans in December so don't feel guilty about copying it,although no doubt there will be variations. It was originally made using Hickory and Ash. I will settle on...

Units and benches made from salvage WIP

Hi, having spent last year rebuilding my workshop I needed to fit it out, only after splashing out on a new table saw It would have to be done reasonably cheap. I also bought this SIP lathe off Ebay but the stand is a bit naff and takes up space. The challenge then is to put...

    Why do I get condenstation

I have a shed which I just use to store wood and bits and pieces in. It is not heated. This morning after a few days of hard frost I noticed the inside of the roof was covered in condesation. The roof has 18mm tongue grove chip board cover in two layers of roofing felt. The eaves are open...

    Bandsaw

Hi, I'm going to purchase my first bandsaw and would appreciate any advice. At the moment the two favourites would appear to be Bastato 4 or Record BS350xi. Looking to spend around £600 and want it for basic furniture making, cutting boards etc I don't do any turning. Any advice is welcome.
