  4. J

Motor Brushes: Bosch GST 135 CE Professional Jigsaw

Yes, pretty obvious in hindsight, but only after I'd removed every screw I could see...:D

Motor Brushes: Bosch GST 135 CE Professional Jigsaw

Can anyone tell me how to replace these (which covers to remove etc...)? Can't find any info online. Cheers John EDIT: Never mind, worked it out myself the old fashioned way (trial and error :))

    102/apron plane mouth width

I have a Quangsheng adjustable mouth block plane with the same problem. I have to grind the blade well out of square to give equal cutting depth across the whole mouth. Contrary to popular opinion, I've found the Quangsheng blade steel pretty mediocre too.

Sharpening chisels for a complete novice

Rather disappointing that no-one has pointed out to Swiss Tony that sharpening a chisel is like making love to a beautiful woman...:D

    Norton Combo Oil Stone

I think PS only uses the glass cleaner on diamond plates.
  12. J

    Which Diamond Stone?

I know. That’s why I bought one. But was disappointed with the flatness.
  13. J

    Which Diamond Stone?

I've had the opposite experience. The Atoma I have is noticeably less flat than my DMTs. Puts me in a quandary because I need a new coarse stone and I don't know which way to go...

Low angle vs standard angle block plane

They feel different in the hand. This may or may not be important to you. It's the decider for some.

    Sharpening, Steel or both.

In my work, I find that planing ebony is where PMV-11 really comes into its own. It stays "sharp enough" much longer than O1. And to cleanly plane the horrible curly grain stuff that's often passed off as "AAA" grade fingerboards these days, "sharp enough" means "pretty damn sharp" ...:)

    about £25 or so.

    buying hand planes

Yes that's the one. Sometimes takes a few goes to get a reply.

    buying hand planes

I think that unless you enjoy restoring old planes (and nothing wrong with that) and/or you don't place any monetary value on your time, the Tooltique planes look like a no-brainer for the money. If they are indeed restored/flattened to the standard they claim (and I see no reason to doubt that).

    buying hand planes

If I buy a plane that needs flattening, I send it to Ray Iles for surface grinding. He does a lovely job and is very reasonably priced. With a nice sharp blade installed, the Stanleys/Records he's done for me work every bit as well as a "premium" plane.
