    Tersa compatible thicknessers

I have Barke turnblades retrofitted to my Jet 260. Got them from Cutting Solutions. Work great. Mark

    Wadkin 10 AGS "Restoration"

Hi Martin If your saw was initially sold in Belgium as an import I would think it's very likely the same "European export" spec as mine. I believe the giveaways are the metric threads, the later style riving knife, and the dual voltage motor. Regarding your damaged arbor threads. It's...

    Wadkin AGS 10 restoration

Great restoration. Well done :) Love the colour scheme. I think one of the pictures on page 5 (where I talk about dust extraction) of my Restoration Thread shows how the rise and fall mechanism on my AGS10 went together. Maybe that can help you. I too had the same problem with a worn out rise...

Great :) Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'll do some research locally and see if I can find a supplier. Mark

    Union Graduate lathe

Hi all :) Time to resurrect this thread as I have a couple of new questions. 1 year on and I'm still using the Union Graduate without anything more than a general clean up. I'm totally new to turning so wanted to just use it a bit before deciding on any restoration plans. I initially set the...

    Wadkin AGS 10" vs 12"

Here's my resto from 2 years ago. I just dived in and unbolted/unscrewed everything until the whole saw was reduced to a pile of bits. I really had no idea what I was doing but it wasn't that difficult and I got loads of great help from the knowledgeable Wadkin experts on this forum. If I give...

    Dust extractor start fault

Hopefully we have reached a conclusion. Scott & Sargeant are sending me a new motor + start and run capacitors :) Mark

Remaking a WB AGS 10 riving knife assembly

Looking at my first picture and your second one it looks like your saw has the same mounting holes available as can be found on mine. In which case it might be viable to reproduce in steel plate the cast iron plate my knife mounts to. Yes, I put a lot of effort into the dust collection on my...

    Dust extractor start fault

I have measured the voltage drop as; start = 232V, at trip = 212V. This is with the thermal protection at the factory adjusted 14A. At start the motor draws 45A and 25A when it trips out. When I this weekend got the extractor to run by blocking the air intake to reduce the load on the motor I...

    Dust extractor start fault

It's the thermal protection that trips all the time. The circuit breaker at the fuse box has never tripped. Mark

    Dust extractor start fault

If I go down the route of increasing the supply circuit breaker rating I will definately at the samer time increase the cross sectional area of the associated wiring. Mark

    Dust extractor start fault

Would this not potentially reduce the life of the motor by allowing it to overload before tripping out ? I am not keen on this as a permanent solution. Mark

Remaking a WB AGS 10 riving knife assembly

I have some pictures from when I pulled apart my AGS10 to restore it. Maybe these will help you. My saw is a 1963 model and was fitted with a rise/fall/tilt riving knife from the factory. I have since replaced the factory original knife and blade guard with one from Shark Guard (bought in the...

    Dust extractor start fault

Thanks for the suggestion Pete. It worked !! At least I got the motor to start and run continuously with this method and it continued to run when I opened the blastgates. However it still trips out if any load is put on the motor during startup. This morning I received some feedback from the...

    Dust extractor start fault

I'm going to just try uping the cable to 4mm2 first and see if I get anywhere with that. After that I think a D-type 16A. And if that's not enough a new, separate 20A D-type circuit specifically for the extractor. Mark

    Dust extractor start fault

Thanks for the prompt reply. You may be onto something here and you're actually the second person who has suggested this. So increasing the cable size to 4mm2 and changing the circuit breaker to 20A maybe the solution ? Mark

    Dust extractor start fault

Just taken delivery of a new dust extractor which unfortunately doesn’t work ! As we have not got to the bottom of why or who’s to blame I won’t throw the supplier under the bus as yet although the pictures may give the game away for those in the know  The extractor has a 3kW (4hp) motor which...

    Norwegian wood(shop) build

After way too much deliberation I finally got tempted by their Black Friday 10% sale and order this BEAST from Scott and Sargeant :) The order was for a single phase 3hp extractor but what arrived was in fact 4hp (but still single phase) Time will show whether the breaker can stand...

    Norwegian wood(shop) build

Time for a short update :) Before I can build any cupboards and benches I had to have something to build them on. A big assembly/outfeed table in front of the Wadkin was therefore always going to be first priority. They'll be drawers for power tools underneath but I got interrupted by the...

    Union Graduate lathe

Thanks for all the replies :D I sense the consensus is that the machine deserves to keep its natural patina and painting, certainly with Hammerite, should only be a last resort ? We'll see when I get it home and clean it up a bit but I'm not convinced I can remove all the splashed...
