Why are router usually lifts so expensive?

Yes, this does raise the question why the "lift" is not always build into the router somehow. All we need is a hole where we can put a hex key and rotate that to move the router vertically inside its fixed base. Being an electronic engineer that has designed so many complex digital systems for...

Why are router usually lifts so expensive?

My interest in router table is not just edge profiling but also things like dado and rabbet and groove e.t.c which require fence. From what I understand, the spindle moulder is where we have no fence and just need to round the edges. Is that correct understanding?

Why are router usually lifts so expensive?

Router lifts are used to mount a router with the intention of makign it easier to change the router bit height from the top of the router plate thus not having to do it from the bottom. I can see that router lifts are quite expensive. I don't think I need one right now and might not need one...

Why are some router tables made up of cast iron but not others?

Thank you everyone for taking time out to shed light on this subject

Why are some router tables made up of cast iron but not others?

So in my research on router tables, I found that the cheaper ones contain almost all MDF and plastic and as we go up in the price range, we get more and more alumium. Eventually, we reach the cast iron router tables. From what I have read, these tables reduce the vibration since they are...

    Shooting board woes

By shooting board I thought you meant the board that shoots out from table saw because of kickback. Stumpy Nubs made a video on this "CAUGHT ON TAPE: Table saw bevel kickback goes through wall- WHAT HAPPENED??"

Buying cheapest wood for woodwork practice in the UK

Could you kindly elaborate a bit more on "local small industrial estate in search of Architectural Joiners"? Thanks. I threw away a 50£ computer desk I bought since it just started coming apart 2 weeks after it was assembled. I threw it away. Maybe I should have saved the panels and ruined them...

Buying cheapest wood for woodwork practice in the UK

Timber is quite expensive but even engineered wood (Plywood and MDF) is not exactly cheap. For a person that is learning woodworking, they would like to make some stuff (just to throw away later) to improve the skill and experiment with different techniques. How and from where can a person buy...

    Router and Router Table advice

I have been watching woodworking channels on youtube for like 10 months. My initial project was related to the home office. You see I have to handle almost a dozen things connected into sockets. These are: two monitors, two laptops (personal and work related), two USB hubs, two external hard...

    Router and Router Table advice

How do we get straight dado and rabbet if the fence is not important? The dado and rabbet needs to be a certain distance from the edge. It can be done using a mitre gauge and table saw and this will keep it straight. So do we also use mitre gauge on the router table? What if I need a 6mm...

    Router and Router Table advice

I actually prefer to buy a 2nd hand router table. I have seen many videos in which people are using router table for various things. I do understand what a router table is capable of. I can see that I can try and build one myself as well. However, a self built table might not be "straight" and...

    Router and Router Table advice

I bought a Bosch POF 1400 ACE last year and used it for some wood working excersie. It used to make surfaces flush with each other and also to round out sharp edges. I also created some profiles using pieces of wood for a rectangle shape hole. I screwed them together. First I drilled small hole...

    Router and Router Table advice

My own woodworking skill is so basic at this time that it would not be possible to make a router table. I might able to do it if I try hard as long as I have all the required parts (track, plate/lift, screws) in the first place. After looking around a lot, I can see that for...

What Router would you recommend for a beginner?

Please definitely watch video on the dangers of using routers (and other power tools for that matter). This is important so we don't end up loosing fingers or whole hand or even arm with these things.

New router lift needed/Sauter Vs UJK?

I have a question as a nonrotuer table person. A router table can have a fixed plate, or a router lift. Since it is possible to fiddle with the router to set the bit height, and we would not need to change the bit height when the router is On and running, what is the actual benefit of a router...
