Kitchen build. Timber ceiling and walnut cabinets.

I’m very behind on rest of the house. I’ve finished plumbing finally. Tiling and electrics are all done as well. We’re finally on to what I’m good at and enjoy: I love doing trim carpentry. Green nursery still needs picture frame wainscoting and crown moulding(coving). Did stain grade ash...

Kitchen build. Timber ceiling and walnut cabinets.

Cabinets are all in. Countertops as well. Laid the tng flooring last week as well as all the plumbing for the kitchen island. Finished floor with Rubio 5%mist, I think it preserves natural color of the oak better than the pure.

    Any Festool owners?

Neither. I'm a professional who thought of giving the Kapex a try as I rely on Festool gear daily to put food on my table. I also own a Rotex, ES 150/3, DF 700, TS75, Carvex 400, OF1400, OF2200, OFK 700. I'd buy them all again except the TS75 and the Kapex. The Kapex is simply overpriced for...

    Any Festool owners?

I recommend the Dewalt 780. I ran the Dewalt 780 back in the states for years. Every decent professional carpenter I know back home runs the 780 with an aftermarket tall fence. They and myself have run miles and miles of crown and base with no issues. Years ago Kapex had a reputation for...

    Plywood and paint!

I did my van back in the states with plywood. I recommend bondo anywhere you need to fill. Everything is going to vibrate so putty won't work. My go to finish for ply is 2 coats of sanding sealer and 2-3 coats of an alkyd paint (think you call it eggshell here). I lived in it for 6 months...

Kitchen build. Timber ceiling and walnut cabinets.

Just finished ceiling couple weeks ago. Starting on cabinets this week. Walnut just got delivered for the sequenced drawers and doors. Ceiling was made with 12mm plywood. Used track saw set to for nicklegap effect. Ripped a couple strips of ply to 150mm width and my combination square blades...

    Spray painting - which paint

Use a solvent based paint if its going to be outdoors. I really hate bare paint if theres going to be any standing water on any surfaces. Strongly recommend some type of topcoat. Other than automotive finish (aliphatic polyurethane) a topcoat will yellow or amber which might alter the appearance...

    STREtek poplar faced ply

I've recently broken down a batch (10 sheets of 12mm and 20 of the 18mm) of the Stretek poplar ply. Think it was 82 pounds from Falcon Timber for the 18mm sheets. I'm from the states where B/BB birch is 120 dollars a sheet so I was enticed by the price point. This will be my go to for all...
