    Triton or Trend router

That's really reassuring Ollie, thank you. It looks in really good condition, boxed too with all the bits, I'm pretty chuffed for that money.

    Triton or Trend router

Wow, thank you for all the replies. This is the first chance I've had all day to reply, so apologies. Last night I put a cheeky bid on a Makita 3612 1/2" which looked in very good condition, that was before I was fully sold on Triton which I now absolutely am. Anyway, I've won the 3612 for £99...

    Triton or Trend router

You sound like you might get a lot more use out of both compared to me. I can't think when I would ever have used a table🤷🏻‍♂️

    Triton or Trend router

The circular and trapping the existing router were both considered. I suppose the easiest thing would be to get a new fence, I presume they're relatively universal, I just need to check the rod dimensions... I think I was using this as an excuse for a new tool know I've other jobs coming up...

    Triton or Trend router

Thanks gents, so the Triton is definitely sounding like an unviable option for my needs, possibly even the T7. The main reason I should have perhaps mentioned was to replace a cheap router with no fence to cut a 35mm deep 14mm wide groove in a door to fit a drop seal. I'm not sure I'll get...

    Triton or Trend router

Hi, given that I have a few projects lined up, I thought I'd go nuts and buy a new router to help with the jobs. I've been aiming mostly at the 1/2" collets due to being more robust and more versatile. The heavy duty use will be cutting mortices for a new gate, door hinge cuts, and general use...

I'll post up good or bad 👍😁

Cutting groove into door for drop seal

Not really, I'm hitting the cheapest obvious things first. It's solid walls all the way around, next obvious weak spot is the door

Cutting groove into door for drop seal

It's a good idea but I want to fit this now I have it, it's all about the long term solution. I'll probably start chopping into the base of the door from the hinge side, on the off chance that it is hollow. I'll just source a solid door worst comes to the worst

Cutting groove into door for drop seal

Sure, this is one of the better brands I found, the problem is finding a company who doesn't charge a fortune for p&p like these guys. I think I paid £26 all in from a firm in Inverness...

Cutting groove into door for drop seal

Tbh I'm now sick of thinking about it, I'm just going to get a new router. I've been looking at the Bosch 1400ae but then also a second hand Makita... the Makita is 1/2" chuck which might be best for my next job cutting mortice for a new pair of gates

Cutting groove into door for drop seal

Did that at the last house, then realised the joys of heating and cooling it effectively😂. I have a dedicated study office now so could sound proof it properly for a fraction. It is all solid walls though, so I just need to solve the door problem. I am actually down with shooting one of the...

Cutting groove into door for drop seal

The worst case scenario, I can use this same cassette in a replacement solid door if needed. The office does have solid brick walls, so the door is the only factor to worry about luckily

Cutting groove into door for drop seal

I've check and the bottom frame has plenty of depth left, they aren't the cheapest doors I've seen

The best place to come from 🙌😁

Cutting groove into door for drop seal

Standard door as you can see. I need to seal it around the frame too and was contemplating drilling and filling with expanding foam, but the egg box design on ones I've demolished in the past and presumably built into this would stop that being effective

Cutting groove into door for drop seal

Both great ideas, especially the door feet for when I eventually replace them. I believe there are holes in it and I do have a few big pieces of ply knocking about. That could work really well as the long flute bit I need are generally very long. The additional ply would help.

Cutting groove into door for drop seal

That's exactly the issue. If you go too long on the flute bit then you have to precut the groove first owing to the routers drop limitations. I'm tempted to buy a second hand DeWalt with double fence, I'm just not sure I'll get the full use and would prefer to buy a trim router eventually with...
