Mine's an EB 316 (the blue one). A decent machine after fitting a Dure-Edge blade.

    Workshop heating

Charley et al We have a woodburning stove in the living room (more for the aesthetics than the heating, although it's rated at 7kw!). For a cheap (actually free!) supply of logs I contacted a few local tree surgeons - they're a helpful bunch. One of them even drops logs off when they finish a...

    Forum users' Table saws

Count me among the happy Scheppach TS2500 users ... :D BTW - Asleitch & Michel - it's worth asking the Technical department at NMA to send you their own (hand-written from experience!) setup guide. The one that comes with the saw isn't the best ...

    Entry Level Drill Press

Sawdust Producer Re picture attached to your posting ... At the risk of sounding like a concerned grannie, I must tell you that a long sleeved shirt with the cuff unbuttoned that close to a spinning object is a VERY BAD THING ... regards eeyore

Steven Maybe you've not noticed ... If you look at the top right hand corner of your messages you should see a button marked 'Edit' - could save you some typing ... Regards eeyore

has any one used one of these

Stevezm The question was "has anyone used one of these" The answer in your case would appear to be 'no' I find it curious that you profess a strong objection to other people using a time-saving gadget (of which, presumably, you have no first-hand experience) and then go on to claim...

has any one used one of these

Hi wood1000 I've had one for about a month - used it on a pseudo-Victorian washstand in maple with black walnut top. It's a timesaver if you've a lot of identical m/ts to do, and very accurate if you take care in setup. I'd strongly recommend ditching the plastic guide bushes that come with it...

Band saw setting up and the right blades ?

Bagwell Hi again, metalhead! For bandsaw blades and advice about same talk to Andrew at Dure-Edge (0161 430 2647). He'll need to know the make of your bandsaw or at least the length of your blade (the link in the PS at the bottom includes instructions on how to find the length of your blade...

Dado Sets for Dewalt 720 RAS

Hi John I'm reliably informed (by a DeWalt techie person) that the Freud 8" Safety Dado Set (see http://www.machinemart.co.uk/product.asp?p=060620495) will fit your DeWalt. He claimed to use one himself at home. Hope this helps eeyore

    Budget Workshop machinery

Hi HasBeen Welcome to the forum ... You might like to take a look at http://www.inthewoodshop.org/general/wwa11.shtml Lots of sound advice there (it's an excellent site), and well put. The best piece of advice I've seen is to 'buy only what you need, but buy the best you can afford, and...

    Dado Head blade

phale Please note: what you're buying from Rutlands is a pair of washers - blade not included! The washers need to be a good fit on the arbor, not just 'near enough', or the whole thing might wobble rather more than you'd like, culminating in the blade coming off and whizzing across the...

IS BUYING A ELEC BEK SECOND HAND A GOOD IDEA ?

Steven I take your point - in the building industry I'm sure they can save time and effort, but in building furniture to be proud of? ... I think not :) The examples you quote I would class as DIY, not as activities normally carried out in a "ukworkshop" ... Norm has a lot to answer for...

IS BUYING A ELEC BEK SECOND HAND A GOOD IDEA ?

Bagwell You're welcome. The footprint thing reminds me... a word to the wise  To avoid putting your foot in it, followed by muffled titters and a possible earbashing, when in the presence of woodies (particularly the variety referred to as 'neanderthals'), you should never refer to...

timelife (those really annoying ads on H&L)

Steven I agree with Charley - reading those Time-Life books is nothing to be ashamed of, and as you say, the plans can be pretty useful. Some of the stuff in "The Home Workshop" volume from their "Custom Woodworking" series shamed me into building some projects for my workshop. So read on, and...

IS BUYING A ELEC BEK SECOND HAND A GOOD IDEA ?

Bagwell Okay, then. Right. Based on the info supplied ... The Elektra Beckum PKF255 V8 you describe is a current production model available with "all the trimmings" from Rutlands among others at £1589.95 - at which price they throw in an EB SPA1100 dust extractor, normal price £189.95. The...

IS BUYING A ELEC BEK SECOND HAND A GOOD IDEA ?

Hi Bagwell Not enough information supplied for a proper answer, I fear ... :( Does "with all kit" mean including the scriber blade, sliding table, extensions and so on? How old is it? General condiiton? How much use has it had? What are you going to use it for? Whether or not it's a 'good...
