Prepping a soot-stained wall prior to repainting

Sealing (or hacking off the plaster, sealing and replastering) is essential because it is likely that there is soot between bricks and soot is hygroscopic. If you clean really well you may not get staining immediately but after a while damp patches will appear

Why is this dangerous kit being advertised on here?

I agree with the examples you use, but the Act does apply to some instances outside the workplace. The (often missed) important word is etc. The full name of the Act is; The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 .

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

Check the thickness of the riving knife and the blade. If the blade is thinner than the knife it will bind. In use this appears to the eye as a mis-aligned knife or fence. Check the knife is not bent. I don't know your saw, but usually you can fit shims into the fastening box for the knife to...

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

Extra resistance will occur if the blade wears to be the same or smaller thickness as the riving knife. This can cause a sudden stop especially if the board after the knife can twist or sway. It's not always obvious that the blade is worn as it may be cutting satisfactorily. Worth checking...

    2 stroke garden machinery frustration

You are sure about the mixture aren't you? I gave a strimmer to my son. After a few weeks we were talking on the phone. He said it started and ran but lots of smoke and a bit slow. He was putting 20 parts of oil to 1 of petrol!. How it started I don't know, but it's fine now.

How do you exchange the heat stored in a Sand Battery into a water heating system.

I added a metal tube to a hot air paint stripper to light the Aga. Perhaps an experiment around this would be worthwhile (and a lot cheaper than the commercial version). In 1975 a colleague played with a massive heat store in the cellar of his old house. It was filled with common salt. It...

    Pumped drain to sewer etc

This depends upon the age of the drain (see law on combined drains (etc) On a slightly different tack, you need to carry out a proper survey; without measuring from a proper datum the differences from ground level will lead you astray. Never put your sump in the cellar - all hell will break...
