    Counterfeit and 'Knock-off' Tools

Not that Wikipedia is the be-all and end-all of sources.... and noting that reproduction of a partial listing falls under "fair use" provisions of copyright legislation, I submit the following excerpt: Cheers - Rob

    Counterfeit and 'Knock-off' Tools

Sorry Jacob - your bread analogy falls flat - and is not really representative of the typical examples being discussed here... Try making your arguments using Mickey Mouse as an example... Why should Disney lose exclusive rights to Mickey? (for the record, I don't believe they should) How...

    Counterfeit and 'Knock-off' Tools

Hi - Yes - I believe it is fair to use ideas or products that have been "discarded" by others. At the same time - there is always an opportunity to improve (create) .... Another instance is for the greater public good (which does not mean self-interest)... I also believe that that many...

    Counterfeit and 'Knock-off' Tools

Hi - Interesting thread (well - the first few pages anyway) with a complete round-up of all the usual suspects.... 8) I will offer a slightly different perspective (a personal one) on offensive copies. When company A takes a product made by company B, and asks company C to make it for a...

New Veritas Tool Steel - PM-V11

Hi Andrea, If we can come up with a real world test, that reflects real world use, then we can give an absolute ranking....but that will take a lot more time - perhaps even years, for the steels we tested. I should note that we are still testing steels to be able to do just that... The...

New Veritas Tool Steel - PM-V11

Hi Matthew - I personally sharpen just about everything on 800x, 4000x waterstones, followed by green honing compound, and this will work just fine on PM-V11. PM-V11 should be compatible with most people's current shapening regimen, if they are already sharpening well hardened tool steels...

New Veritas Tool Steel - PM-V11

Hi - Much as I'd like to be in the same marketing position as Apple is (customers virtually begging for continual upgrades) - there's absolutely no reason to change anything that works for you in the hand tool world. In fact, I'd submit it's much the opposite - antiques seem to become more...

New Veritas Tool Steel - PM-V11

Darn... I *almost* searched "SN8K-01L"... Good one!

New Veritas Tool Steel - PM-V11

Hi, Not sure I'd go quite that far, as our testing does show different. There will certainly be an appropriate choice for many people among the steels on offer though. Keep in mind that our scales are relative, and not absolute. Our testing was designed to aid in making a selection... not to...

New Veritas Tool Steel - PM-V11

    Veritas chisels

Hi - Still working out pricing and distribution... so can't answer that part just yet. We'll eventually have mortise and butt chisels in addition to the bench chisels... but it takes time to develop tooling and processes (mostly tooling). The real target here is to get everything running...

    Veritas chisels

Yup - Worked on pricing today (O1) - getting ready for release. PM-V11 chisels follow later (fall), as we now switch to PM-V11 plane blade production.... Lots on the go! Cheers - Rob (who knows there are a number of sets making their way to various countries as I type.... 8) )

    Lee Valley premium planes?

Hi - Rick has a pretty good memory....! We've been very busy working on a number of longterm projects - the chisels being one of them. The others...well.... not even Alf knows, so I can't really say here. It will be a busy fall... that's for sure! While we've designed a number of premium...

    New Veritas Chisels ?

En France, ca se peut qu'on peut faire ca avec "tuffault", mais pas avec le pierre ici.... Cheers - Rob (who has 16 staying at the house, and 22 for dinner tonight....and it's not a large house! )

STILL no sign of the new Veritas Chisels

No apologies necessary... that's a good tool too! Cheers - Rob

STILL no sign of the new Veritas Chisels

Hi Alf! I, too, have used the "what year" when asking about delivery dates.... #-o Chisels require a bit of extra testing - as they're likely to be beaten, and used as a pry (not just paint can lids!)... Just being careful is all.... Cheers - Rob

STILL no sign of the new Veritas Chisels

Me too....  They're running... but very, very slowly.... Cheers - Rob

Mouth widths on Veritas bevel-up planes

I keep trying to talk Tom into making the compass plane... but I'm not sure he's convinced yet.... It's kinda like one of those cartoons where two characters are passing a lit bomb back and forth ... I hand it to him and say "You should make it...", and he hands it back and says "Really, I...

Mouth widths on Veritas bevel-up planes

Hi Kevin - Your post kicked off quite a flurry of activity here. The chamfer on the trailing edge of the toe is not supposed to be there - but is exactly as shown on our drawings, and has completely passed through our inspection and QC process as being 100% correct. It is actually something...
